Students Compete in FIRST Lego Robotics Competition

On an early release day, most students head home to relax, play with friends and begin the weekend. Not these students. Last Friday at Hailey Elementary, twelve GATE students from Bellevue, Hailey and Woodside Elementary worked with the Wood River High School VEX Robotics team. Under the direction of teacher Kristy Turco, the students are finding solutions to the problem of food contamination and learning how to program and design robots. The students have formed two teams and are entering the FIRST Lego Competition in Twin Falls this Saturday, November 5. Teacher Returns from Iraq
 Hailey Elementary students gathered in the hallways to wave American flags and welcome the return of Mark Sauvageau from Iraq. With the Montana National Guard, Major Sauvageau is in the 1-163rd Combined Arms Battalion, which is part of the 116th Heavy Brigade Combat Team. Major Sauvageau has been in the National Guard for eighteen years and this was his second tour of duty in Iraq. When not serving his country, Sauvageau is a 5th grade teacher at Hailey Elementary.

Students Celebrate Dia de los Muertos
Students across the District celebrated Dia de los Muertos. Dia de los Muertos is celebrated throughout Mexico and Central America on Novermber 1st and 2nd each year. The holiday is a happy celebration to welcome back the spirits of loved ones who have died. It is believed that the spirits return on these two days. November 1 is dedicated to remembering deceased infants and children, while adults are honored on November 2nd. Goal # 3 of the BCSD Strategic Plan states that "our students are prepared for a multicultural and multilingual world." BCSD Board of Trustees Meeting Next Week
 The BCSD Board of Trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting next week, Tuesday, November 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the District Office, 118 W. Bullion, Hailey, ID 83333. Public comments are always welcome. On the agenda: - Hailey Elementary custodians Julio Mitma and Doug Shiner will receive an accolade from the Board of Trustees
- Woodside Elementary will give an update on student learning
- Assistant Superintendent John Blackman, Curriculum Director Patty McLean, and Communications Director Heather Crocker will give presentations.

Vote for Keefer Park!
Physical education classes at Wood River High School have adopted Keefer Park, located on the north east side of the Woodside neighborhood. WRHS teacher Lars Hovey has joined with the Hailey Parks Foundation to enter the Pepsi Refresh Everything program The group has a month to acquire the necessary votes to reach the "top 10" in their category and receive funding.
