"Nelson Claytor's gift to the University of Texas at ArlingtonNelson Claytor wasn't extraordinary, but other circumstances were. Although the Fort Worth businessman never attended the school, he made the donation as a tribute to his father and as a way to boost his company.

 

In this case, his interests lined up perfectly with the university's. He wants to strengthen the physics department so there will be a pipeline of local scientists who might work for him someday.

 

'The places that are great for technology all have strong colleges,' said Claytor, president of Fresnel Technologies, which makes lenses for motion detectors, mail-scanning equipment and other devices.
