It is Time for MusselFest!

The 26th annual Penn Cove Musselfest is just around the corner and we are super excited to get things rolling.

This is the 26th Anniversary of Musselfest and it will be held March 3rd - 4th in Historic Coupeville on Whidbey Island.

Activities include live music all weekend, a mussel eating contest, cooking seminars by top Seattle area chefs, our mussel, wine and beer garden, boat tours of the mussel rafts and many more fun and interesting activities.
         2011 Mussel Boat
This is a great opportunity to come visit the cute seaside community of Coupeville, shop in the art galleries and stores and just have a fun and relaxing weekend on Whidbey Island.  There is a mussel chowder competition that involves wandering through the local eateries and tasting and voting on your favorite mussel chowder.

Another fun event is the mussel eating competition, held on both Saturday and Sunday, with the winner getting a $150 gift certificate to El Gaucho in Seattle.

You can feel good about having fun in the Mussel, Wine and Beer Garden as the proceeds go to the Boy's and Girl's Club of Coupeville.  We couldn't do it without our other sponsors at Sierra-Nevada Brewing and the fine folks at Flyers Brewery and Chateau St. Michelle.

There will be a mountain bike mussel ride in the with those riders taking part in a poker ride which will can lead to good times later in the Mussel, Wine and Beer Garden.

MusselFest is also a great chance to learn more about Penn Cove Shellfish and the sustainable farming methods employed to grow and distribute our mussels, oysters and clams.

For more information about Musselfest you can check out the The Mussel Festival website or call the Musselfest info office at 360-678-5434.
We hope to see you there!

Penn Cove Shellfish Launches Another Vessel

The boys in our boat shop at Everest Marine in Burlington, Washington have been busy this winter.  We just completed the 8th new oyster harvest vessel, the "Shoalwater Express", for our partners at Coast Seafoods Company.  It was launched and completed successful sea trials and is now awaiting a decent stretch of weather for the trip out the Straits and down the coast to Willapa Bay.

This oyster harvest boat uses a 525 horsepower John Deere marine diesel to power a 24" TraktorJet drive which allows it to operate in some very skinny water and haul quite a load of oysters at the same time.  This 64' boat hit 21 knots during sea trials!

The jigs have already been reset to start another boat for Coast while also working on new harvest equipment as we re-fit our mussel harvest vessel the "Moule Mariner" and a new 28 foot work skiff for our partners at Pacific Oyster Company in Oregon.
Boston Seafood Show
Boston Booth display 08
The International Boston Seafood Show will be next week on March 11th thru the 13th at the new Boston Convention and Exhibition hall.

We will once again be in booth #950 with our shellfish partners at Coast Seafoods. We always enjoy seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

Of course the show is all about creating new business opportunities and we are very excited for the opportunity to share the story about our products and explain why we are your best choice for fresh mussels, clams and oysters.  We hope you stop by if you are there.

Here's a short video about the The Penn Cove Mussel Fest and and how we grow our award winning mussels.  We hope you enjoy watching this video about

Oyster of the Month -
The Effingham

Effingham

This premium

3- 3.5" quality oyster is the newest addion to our oyster line up.  They are tray raised in the deep waters of Effingham Inlet in Barkley Sound on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. This remote pristine environment produces oysters perfect for serving on the half shell.

Effingham Inlet oysters have plump cream coloured meat with a vibrant briny flavor and smooth lettuce like finish. On-site conditioning with a tumbler provides a uniform size, deeper cup and clean hard shells.
