December 8, 2011
Greetings!

Before you dive in to the 2012 to-do list, be sure to take the time to recognize all of the volunteers and donors that supported your organization's work in 2011. Sometimes we forget to pause to celebrate our work and sincerely thank all of the great people that care about our rivers.

While 2011 has been one of the most wild years in Wisconsin's history, our spirits are always lifted up by the amazing work all of you are doing in your communities around the state.

Thank you all for being a shining example of the power of grassroots efforts.

Happy Holidays,

Updated Tools
New Bylaws and Filing and Forms Tools

As we all know, the only constant in life is change. Due to new requirements and fees set by the IRS and the State of Wisconsin, we have updated our Sample Bylaws and Filings and Forms tools in our Watershed Advocate Toolkit.

The Filings and Form toolkit includes details about annual reports your group needs to submit to the IRS and Wisconsin. Don't lose your state or federal status because you forgot to submit the correct forms on time.

Advocacy Grant and Tools
Dale Druckrey Advocacy Grant

We know many river groups have been considering getting more involved in advocating for good laws to protect the waters of Wisconsin. We also know that taking the big step to be an advocate can be daunting. We have a few ways to help your group.

Our tools, Influencing Decision that Affect Your Environment and Communicating Environmentally: Changing Minds, Building Momentum will help you better understand the advocacy process and how to create a meaningful message.

A past issue of the TRIB discusses the dos and don'ts for lobbying.

Most importantly, we have a small grant, up to $500, to help cover the costs of an advocacy campaign. Your group can apply for our Dale Druckrey Advocacy Grant to establish or grow an existing local, regional or state-wide water-related advocacy effort.  Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until the annual allotment of funds is distributed. Contact Allison Werner for more information.

EPA Urban Water Grant
Deadline January 23, 2012

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency expects to award between $1.8 to $3.8 million in funding for projects across the country to help restore urban waters by improving water quality and supporting community revitalization. The funding is part of EPA's Urban Waters program, which supports communities in their efforts to access, improve, and benefit from their urban waters and the surrounding land.
