March 2011
Greetings!

With all of the political activity the last few weeks, we've received many questions from you about lobbying rules as they apply to nonprofit organizations. Nonprofits ARE allowed to lobby as long as you focus on issues, not candidates, and that policy advocacy is not your primary focus. Take a look at a past issue of the TRIB, Your Group CAN Lobby for more details.

We hope you also consider attending Conservation Lobby Day to learn more about the conservation issues in the state budget and to talk with your legislators to let them know conservation issues matter to you.

Conservation Lobby Day

When: Wednesday March 16th

Register by March 9th

Many river groups and their members have participated in Conservation Lobby Day during the last six years. This year the state budget will be the primary focus.  There are many non-financial items in the budget that will have a big impact on our water resources (Read about them in our WOTS). The legislature's debate on the budget will start in April. Lobby Day is a great way to have your voice heard before the budget review process begins.

Please let our friends at the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters know you will be at Conservation Lobby Day by registering online by March 9th.

Volunteer Stream Monitoring Symposium
When: March 24 & 25
Register by March 14th

Register now for the Volunteer Stream Monitoring Symposium!  The Symposium will begin on the afternoon of March 24 and will continue on March 25 at the Lussier Family Heritage Center in Madison.

We have a great group of speakers lined up who will help you better understand impacts of agriculture on our surface waters, what you can do to monitor farm runoff, what regulations farmers must follow, and much more. Plus, this will be an excellent opportunity for you to network with others from around the state who are interested in this topic. Everyone is welcome, whether or not you've done volunteer stream monitoring in the past.

Check out the Symposium Agenda to see the list of speakers.

The registration fee is $30.Space is limited.  Register Now!
