Advanced Lipids Test

 Why the

Standard Cholesterol Test

Isn't Enough

Since the 1980's Health Care Providers have based their assessment of your coronary heart disease risk on the results of the standard cholesterol test. It is true that the higher the cholesterol the greater the likelihood of coronary heart disease. The problem is that this test is not particularly refined. Research shows that 80% of patients who developed coronary artery disease had the same total cholesterol level of those who did not develop the disease. Typical cholesterol panel blood testing does not identify what is happening within our arteries.

If we focus just on the cholesterol we are ignoring 50-80 percent of people who will develop heart disease. For most people this test will not catch their cardiac problem. A set of normal cholesterol results does not mean that you can rest easy.  Cholesterol is just one part of a much bigger picture-one that includes a host of metabolic factors which can be testing using an

 Advanced Lipids Test.

With Advanced Lipid Testing a deeper examination of cholesterol levels reveal various subtypes of lipid (fat) particles. This specific information indicates the current and potential future health of our arteries and thus our risk for heart attack and stroke.

When used in combination with APOE gene testing, Advanced Lipid Testing provides valuable results to assist in personalizing heart health treatments and prevention.

Greetings!
Happy, Healthy Hearts!

Why APO E Gene Testing can help you protect
and strengthen your heart

February is the time we think of hearts and love.  Think about giving your heart a little love this year.  Our hearts work hard for us every day pumping life's blood and moving forward.   Coronary Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in this country.   I often hear individuals say:  "I know I will get heart disease because my Mom has it."  I just cringe when I hear this!  While our genes do play a large role in our health, it is not only our genes that affect our health.  Environment and lifestyle play a significant role in directing the expression of our genes.  When we "bathe" our genes in a healthy lifestyle-it alters the way our genes speak to our cells.  We call this providing a "gene supportive environment."  The healthier your lifestyle the healthier you will be!

Testing Your Genes Can Help You Reduce Your Risk of Heart Disease

The APO E gene "The Diet Responder" provides a lot of information about your risk for heart disease and how responsive you'll be to certain kinds of treatments and diet.  The genes are labeled # 2, 3 and 4-the 4 gene carries a substantially higher risk for heart disease.

Who should have APOE gene testing?

Anyone with Coronary Artery Disease, family history of heart disease or dementia, high blood pressure, or elevated cholesterol levels. Improvements in other chronic health conditions such as, asthma, allergies, joint pain, inflammatory bowel problems, and other inflammatory problems are routinely seen with the "The Perfect Gene Diet."

I have been using "The Perfect Gene Diet" in my office for the past 2 years.  .  It is a way of eating that supports your genes!  My patients have had incredible results with weight loss and significant decreases in their cholesterol levels.  They also feel incredible.  It is a way of eating that supports your genes!

To get APO E testing done, it is a simple blood draw at our office. We send it to a lab that specializes in processing APO E results, which we will then interpret them for you in a follow-up visit and develop an individualized diet and exercise program that fits your genetic signature.

 To your heart!

Hearts in Nature

This month as you get out and walk, snowshoe or ski, be on the lookout for heart shapes in nature. They happen all around us everyday. Look up in the sky at the clouds or changing weather. Try to find one in the shadows in the trees or the pine needles on the ground against the snow. Big, small and in-between, it is a pleasure to spot one and add it to your 'collection'.

You may even find a heart in a place you should not be, like in a potato chip bag! Have fun.
