Welcome to our newsletter!   December is here and we have already been blasted by snow!   We are definitely seeing the wintertime "sick season" in full swing.   Remember to practice good hand washing and to enjoy the holidays!

Hearing Evaluation Services
 

Did you know that Williamsville Pediatrics shares space with Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists at our new location?  Having these specialty areas right in our building is a great benefit for our young patients and their families.  In each newsletter, our neighbors from Hearing Evaluation Services and the Hearing and Speech Center of WNY will be sending helpful hints regarding your child's hearing or speech language development. We hope that you enjoy!

 

What to expect as your child learns speech sounds

  • Birth - 3 months:  
    • Makes pleasure sounds, cries differently for different needs
  • 4-6 months:           
    • Babbling sounds more speech-like, vocalizes excitement and displeasure
  • 7 months - 1 year:  
    • Babbling has both long and short groups of sounds and your child will imitate different speech sou
    • Uses speech or non-crying sounds to get and keep attent
    • Has one or two words, although they may not be clear
  • 1 - 2 years: 
    • About 50% of speech can be understood by two years
    • p, t, k, b, d, g, m, n, w, j and h consonants are used mostly at the beginning of words
  • 2 - 3 years:
    • About 75% of speech is understood
    • Uses most sounds in the beginning, middle and end of words, 50% of the time
  • 3-4 years:
    • About 90% of speech is understood by age four
    • Says most sounds correctly

Flu Vaccines
  
  • The flu vaccine is recommended for all children 6 months and older.   At Williamsville Pediatrics, we are currently scheduling appointments for the injectable flu vaccine only.    Call now if you would like to schedule an appointment.
  • The nasal flu vaccine is no longer available at our office.

Northtown's Imaging/Dr. Buran
 Williamsville Peds is pleased to announce that we will soon be joined by two new medical partners in our building.   We already enjoy sharing space with Dr. Mary Beth Dunn (Pediatric Dentist) and Hearing Evaluation Services.   Soon, we will also have Northtown's Imaging and Dr. Joseph Buran (Orthopedics) in the building.   Welcome to both!

 Asthma

 

     At Williamsville Peds, we employ the latest technology and guidelines

for the care of children with asthma.   When you come in for your well visit, we will review your asthma control, triggers, and medications.   We will equip you with a plan for what to do during flare ups and how to prevent problems.  

     If it has been more than one year since your last physical and asthma review, please call now for an appointment.
Meet Our Staff

 

Gloria Roetzer, MD, FAAPGloria Roetzer

Dr. Roetzer has been a physician at Williamsville Pediatric Center since 1997. She graduated Cum Laude from SUNY @ Buffalo with her Bachelor of Science and MD. She is a member of the Buffalo Pediatric Society, American College of Pediatricians. She is an active member and past president of the local chapter of the Catholic Medical Association. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She currently holds the title of Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics from SUNY @ Buffalo School of Biomedical Science

Dr. Gloria is married with four children, three step-children, and five grand-children.
