Mother's Day Food Baskets
Mother's Day Family

Mother's Day is approaching, and moms all over the developed world are looking forward to well-deserved breakfasts in bed, or dinners cooked entirely by somebody else-little escapes from the daily mom-worries of what to make for dinner and how to get everyone out the door on time.  Here in Guatemala, however, where malnutrition is rampant, most mothers have to worry about if there will be food for dinner rather than what is on the menu.

We work with families all the time, and know so many mothers who want the best for their children, and make enormous sacrifices to keep their kids in school, put food on the table, and keep a roof over their heads.  Guatemalan mothers are always the first ones out of bed--they often rise well before sunrise to begin washing clothes by hand, and prepare breakfast for the family.  Some mothers climb into the hills--often shoeless or in plastic sandals--to collect heavy bundles of firewood for their stoves, and return home only to stand over a hot fire making tortillas.  Others, with their small children in tow, walk from house to house looking for work cleaning or washing clothes, or head to the fields to work under the hot sun, in order to earn just a few Quetzales to feed their families.  Their strength and perseverance, and the love that motivates them, are inspiring.  They are inspiring.

This Mother's Day, please consider fulfilling one of these amazing moms' most basic wish, by sending a basket full of food that will keep her and her family fed, at least for this one special day (and in many cases longer).  With your help, we can ensure that moms here, just like moms at home, get a much-deserved break from their worries.

To give a Mother's Day Basket, please go to Donate Now, and enter $35 in the 'Other' box, and "Mother's Day Basket" in the details.  Thank you!

If you would like to give this gift in honor of someone ....please let us know all of the relevant information by sending us an e-mail to:

dwight@mayanfamilies.org

and we will be happy to send them an email and put it on our website in the IN HONOR section.

(You can include a student number, family aid number, or the number of an elderly person in the 'Details' too if you know who you want your basket to go to--just be sure to put "FA" before family aid numbers and "A" before elderly numbers so they don't get confused with students!)

Help Mayan Families for free!!  Spread the word by posting the link to one of our blogs--Family Aid, Elderly Care, or Sharon's Blog--on your Facebook or Twitter, forward this email to your friends, mention us on your personal blog--whatever you can think of to let more people know about what we're doing!  Even simple acts like those can make a HUGE difference for us.
