AAPIA Sends Thoughts and Prayers to Recent Disaster Victims

(Washington, D.C. - April 19, 2012) - In light of the tornadoes that have recently struck the states of Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska, AAPIA would like to take this opportunity to ask our friends and patrons to please keep the victims and their families in your thoughts and prayers at this time.

During troubling events such as these, it is very important that those who have suffered property damage hire a public adjuster to protect his or her family. Hiring an adjuster that is fair, helpful and professional will prevent you from being scammed or mislead and will see to it that you get the most out of your settlement.

Public insurance adjusters work alongside insured property owners to aid in filing claims from storm damage. It is essential that public adjusters provide precise and punctual settlements when disasters such as these occur. Before hiring an adjuster, you should make sure he or she is an honest and respected service provider. It's good practice to steer clear from adjusters who are try suspiciously hard to pressure you into signing a contract as well as those who start making promises before they begin to review your case. When consulting with potential adjusters, it is also never a bad idea to ask for references.

No public adjuster is permitted to charge or accept compensation or reimbursement to or more than 10 percent of any insurance settlement. Public adjusters are also forbidden from accepting any fee, retainer, compensation, deposit, or other item of value before the settlement of a claim, unless the loss is being managed by the public adjusters on a time-plus-expense basis.

During trying times such as these, it is important that disaster victims thoroughly understand their legal rights and that they hire an adjuster that will help them to the best of his or her ability.
