"Non-Report" Law Gives Victims Time to Decide
 
It's been nearly two years since Texas instituted its "Non-Reported Sexual Assault Evidence Program."

The law clearly empowers victims, but few locally have taken advantage of its free examination and two-year window on deciding if and when to prosecute.
  
Before 2009, victims of sexual assault had to report the crime in order to receive an evidence-collecting forensic examination. And if the victim chose not to prosecute, she was stuck with the examination bill.  Read more... 
  
Developing Local Support Critical

 

Demand for services is up while federal and state dollars are down. The solution is clear: more community involvement with HCWC's mission. 

It's an irony many charities can relate to. HCWC is serving 15 percent more victims even as federal and state cut-backs  are implemented.

Recognizing the trend, HCWC's directors decided to broaden resource development by hiring a permanent, full-time Director of Development and Community Partnerships.  Read more...

On Saturday, June 4, hundreds of folks will act on their values by participating in the Hays-Caldwell Women's Center's 27thAnnual Auction to be held in the LBJ Student Center ballroom on the Texas State University campus. Admission tickets are $25.00 per person and include a full Texas barbeque dinner. Read more...

Breaking New Ground
Carefully planned capital improvements will double service capacity without increasing overhead.
 

February 28 witnessed, at HCWC's campus in San Marcos, the official groundbreaking for the Building Hope Campaign, Phase II. Following the 2009 building of the McCoy Family Violence Shelter, the Building Hope Campaign, Phase II is a dramatic remodeling of the former  shelter and offices into repurposed facilities that effectively double HCWC's capacity to assist victims of sexual assault, family violence and child abuse.  Read more...
