Hello friends, Happy Spring with summer just around the corner! Our big news since the last e-newsletter is that we placed a beautiful dog, Finley (see story below). We have also formed a wonderful Placement Team to evaluate and assist with the placements. Mark your calendars for our upcoming 2nd annual Strut-Your-Mutt-Dog Walk-A-Thon held on September 18, 2001 at Wickham Park in Manchester (see below for more details). Thank you for your continued support. |
Placement Team
The Pets on Wheels of Connecticut Placement Team is headed by volunteers Chris St. John and Marilyn Allan. They are actively developing the framework, procedures and documents for each stage involved in successful and lasting pet placements. As a facilitator of the human-animal bond, Pets on Wheels of Connecticut cultivates relationships, with not only the receipients of our services but with pet shelters, rescue centers, social referral networks and local veterinarians as well. Our goal is to create a thorough, user-friendly process that streamlines the efforts of all parties involved. In order to expand our network of shelters, rescue centers and veterinarians, we welcome your ideas and recommendations. Please contact us via info@petsonwheelsct.org to offer your input. |

New Placement: Finley
Little Finley had faith. Waiting patiently in a foster home of a rescue organization, he knew there was a home just waiting to welcome him. His dream came true when meeting Pets on Wheels of Connecticut recipient Maure en.
Maureen, widowed for many years has wanted a dog for the last three years. Yet she simply could not afford the costs and had not been able to find assistance. Recommended to Pets on Wheels of Connecticut by the Town of Newington Social Services, Maureen completed our application and interview process and we started the process to help her find the right dog.
Enter Finley. As soon as Finley's foster mother placed Finley in Mareen's arms Maureen burst into tears (as did the rest of us!). Maureen knew instantly Finley was the one for her. Maureen works two days a week at a convent and Finley gets to accompany her. He even gets to sleep in a blanket on her desk. What a lucky little dog! Maureen said she has never been so popular with the sisters as she is now! One of the sisters even asked if Finley could visit some of the residents at the home, so now he is loved by many. This is what Pets on Wheels of Connecticut is about.
Volunteer Lauren Jenkelunas and Elaine Papnic visited Finley in his new home two weeks after placement. A short video was shot and we hope to have posted to our website and facebook soon. Be sure to check our website.
