Welcome

Do you have a bucket list-a list of things you've dreamed about and want to do one day? My husband and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary this year and decided to do one of the items that has been high up on our list... a cruise to Alaska! We're leaving in a couple of weeks. I can't wait!

I'll be posting some video and blogs about our trip on both my website and on Facebook. Be sure to "Like" me there so you can share the trip!

If you've seen my Facebook page you know that we have a new "Ask Lynn" feature. You can ask me a question in a private forum and I'll choose at least one of the questions to answer each month in this newsletter.

You can submit your questions for the "Ask Lynn" feature. Even if your question doesn't get picked, I'm sure you'll find that others often have questions similar to your own - and that you'll find my advice helpful each and every month.

I'm truly looking forward to reading and answering your questions

Whenever something doesn't work out the way you thought it would, instead of thinking that something went wrong, see it as something that went unexpectedly well, but for reasons that are not yet apparent.  Everything plays to your favor. -The Universe

Don't underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just listening to all the things you can't hear, and not bothering. - Winnie the Pooh

Here's a recent post I shared on Facebook that many people enjoyed:

"The way back from a void is not usually through a big leap. It's not one day you're in the void and the next day, voila, a big success! Part of the task is making peace with the fact that you're in a transition and that you're okay. You're being led. There is an inner compass guiding you along the way."

QUESTION:
I am so glad that I can write to you. I am sure you have never been asked this question before. I am in the medical field and I am a Certified Medication Aide. I want to become an LPN. A couple months ago I took the entrance examination test for the LPN school. I passed everything but the math, which I absolutely hate. I have four months to retake just the math and pass. The problem is that I cannot bring myself to study. I know I have to do this but I just can't. Being an LPN is important to me so please guide me. I need your help.
- Susie F., Seattle, WA

This is such a great question. I know we've all experienced issues like this when we want to achieve or create something new in our life and yet there's a big roadblock in the way. Here are some tips I share with my clients to help them accomplish their goals:

Set Small Achievable Goals

Sometimes you can't move forward because the task seems way too huge. Ask yourself if there's a way to break the job down into smaller pieces. For example, "I've got to pass my math test in order to get my LPN degree" seems overwhelming. But saying to yourself, "Today I'm going to read and understand pages 1 - 5 in my study guide," seems very achievable.

Make it Fun

No one likes doing anything that's monotonous and uninteresting. What would make studying for your test enjoyable to you? Perhaps you could enlist a friend who loves math and would take pleasure in teaching you. Or you could keep track of your study time and when you've completed five hours, reward yourself with a special meal, a manicure, chocolate (my favorite!) or some other treat. Maybe there's strength - and support - in numbers and a study group would make it something you look forward to. Challenge yourself to come up with as many fun ways as you can to make studying fun.

Be Creative

I've written six books (and working on the seventh!) and I have to share with you that, at times, I can sit and stare at the computer screen forever. Nothing comes into my mind to write and I feel stuck. Those are the times I know I need to get creative! Some of the things I've done are to... (read the rest at "Ask Lynn"...)

NEW BOOK - Twelve Secrets of Highly Successful Women: A Portable Coach

12 Secrets of Highly Successful Women, by Gail McMeekin My friend and colleague, Gail McMeekin, is the author of several best-selling books including "The 12 Secrets of Highly Creative Women" and "The Power of Positive Choices." Her new book follows the tradition of being highly readable, enjoyable and practical.

Gail combines interviews with some of today's most successful women (one of them is me!) and her own proven success strategies to help readers transcend their "blocks" and achieve success. You'll discover how to:
  • Dismantle limiting beliefs
  • Take positive, calculated risks
  • Make career changes fueled by passion and purpose
  • "Filter and Focus" to give your creative ideas time and space to evolve
  • Trust your intuition
  • Overcome procrastination
  • Declutter and create workable workspaces, and
  • Find resources and support
As in her previous book, The 12 Secrets of Highly Successful Women offers hundreds of examples of how women who are creative entrepreneurs and business leaders have used these strategies for success. This is an inspiring book for women that shows what's possible when you follow your heart and honor your gifts.

Some of my Favorite Things

The Oprah Magazine "O" had several different articles on "Let Your Intuition Be Your Guide" in the August issue. It's still on the newsstands. Grab it now! You can also read part of it on her website. Oprah says, "For all my major moves in my life, I've trusted my intuition."  Hear! Hear!

Psychic medium extraordinaire John Holland also had an article in HIS newsletter on the topic of "Trust Your Gut."
