From the BCA President, Tom Stockmeyer
Byrnwyck's Blue Dolphis Win first three meets Dear Neighbors,
As the newly elected president of the BCA, I want to begin by thanking past president, Tom Halaburt for his years of contribution and leadership to our community.  As President, Tom and other past and present Board members worked tirelessly to grow our reserves and improve our common areas.  Their efforts have made Byrnwyck a fantastic neighborhood.  Since becoming President in May, I have alredy had the opportunity to meet many neighbors whom I would not have otherwise met. Thank you for your input.
In our first Board meeting, we approved open access WiFi for the common pool/tennis areas. The 1-year pilot project will only cost the BCA $250 thanks to generous donations from the Swim Team and interested members! We also voted to place a temporary ceiling on outside membership that still provides us with room to grow but not to the levels that might negatively impact our quality of life.  The temporary ceiling will allow us time to determine the proper ratio of outside to inside members.
Speaking of membership, the committee led by Barb Halaburt will be bringing you an updated paper directory this fall.  The Board is also focused on four high priority projects for 2011.  If you would like to get involved, reach out to me or any Board members.
  1)  Financial:  Finalize and publish five and ten year budgets to determine what levels of reserves are needed and what options are available. This includes migrating our financials onto a cloud-based financial service.  Please welcome Mike Strang as our new Treasurer.
  2)  Renovation:  I've met with the renovation committee twice to determine the status and next steps.  The committee has been meeting regularly.  With the high level of interest in our community for doing something, the Board is committed to getting a range of options in front of the community for a vote.  We are targeting four options with the lowest cost option focused on minor painting and  necessary maintenance.
  3) Tennis Courts:  The courts have hundreds of feet of cracks that need repair. If we don't do something in the coming year, the only option is replace vs. repair.  Tennis chair, Deb White, is obtaining a range of quotes.  Even though this is an important project, we will not move forward without a comprehensive understanding of our long-term budget requirements.
   4)  City Incorporation:  There is a lot of press on this issue with the options being: Annexation by either Dunwoody or Chamblee, creating a new city of Brookhaven, or do nothing. Rebecca Williams is staying close to the issues and is on the board of Citizens for North DeKalb that is studying the various scenarios.  The Board has not taken a position other than we are committed to distributing information as it becomes available so you can make your own decision.
In closing, we all call Byrnwyck home.  We have an amazing community of neighbors who are working hard to improve our neighborhood.
While we may not always agree about what/how things should be done, we should agree that their efforts are what makes Byrnwyck such a special place.  Just look at the community spirit that the swim team and summer camps generate!
Outside membership grew 50% year over year. A big welcome to you.  We hope you will join in all of our great social and sports activities! Our Byrnwyck ladies and boys tennis teams won the City of Atlanta tennis championships this spring!
I would ask that if someone you know is involved through the Board or on a Committee, please take a minute to thank them for their time and effort.  We are truly blessed to have neighbors involved like this in our community.
   Yours Truly,   Tom Stockmeyer

Coach Alexandra cheers on the swimmers Swim Team wins first three meets

According to Coach Alexandra Viers, who is in her 5th year of coaching, and swims for Washington and Lee, "The swimmers have come a long way this season and are doing amazingly. This is definitely the most talented and fun group I have had since I started coaching. This will be my last year coaching and it is great to know I'm ending with such a great group!"  The other coaches are Andrew Thompson, a Marist grad heading to UGA, and Marist students Megan Guenther and Ryan Vaughn.  There is still one tough meet ahead, as well at the Cystic Fibrosis Swim-a-Thon on June 23rd.  Thanks to Terri Proctor for being in charge of concessions, Susan Viers, the treasurer, and Molly Guenther, the registrar. We will need volunteers to take over operations for next year!

Tennis News by Deb White
 A Neighborhood of Champions!

The Ladies Winter USTA team, led by Gena Smith, won its division. The spring season continued the hot streak with Kellee Hoad as our latest T2 Singles Champion - winning the City Champ title for the Business Ladies League.  The Thursday ladies (Captain Deb White) were not only division winners but also the ALTA City Champions as well! And the winning streak continued with our Boys and Girls teams.  Our U10 Boys team, captained by Pat Stockmeyer, brought in a Division and a City Championship win! Rohan Jatar and Jack Stockmeyer, both undefeated in the season, brought the boys all the way this year.  The Girl's team, under the leadership of Stephanie Meer, moved up from U10 to U12 and competed well. We cannot forget our coach Veshi Starks who has trained and had a lot of patience for all his Byrnwyck players.  Look for 5 new "bragging signs" to appear on the courts.

Thanks to Stephanie Meer for coordinating the staining of the tennis gazebo and the installation of the fan.  A special thanks to Bill Meer for repairing the gazebo seating and installing tennis bag hooks.  The bulbs for the tennis lights have been replaced and two additional benches have been added to the courts.  The tennis gate has been repaired so remember to bring your key to the courts.  We would like to form a committee to brainstorm future ideas for the courts.  Anyone interested, please contact Deb White. Camp Byrnwyck a great success!

Camp Byrnwyck had 34 campers ages 5-11 who enjoyed a week of swimming, tennis, arts & crafts.  We had a wonderful group of counselors, all from the Byrnwyck community.  Led by head counselor, Andrew Cuadrado, we had Veshi Starks, our tennis pro, Sam Beckwith, Molly Wafer, Olivia Vaughn and Caroline Little. There were tennis and pool games, yummy snacks, and everyone tie-dyed a Camp Byrnwyck t-shirt, thanks to the creative designs of Suzanne Simpkin.  Looking forward to another fun week of Camp Byrnwyck next year!

Neighborhood Notes!

Thanks to the families who came out for the pool grounds clean up day!  And thanks to Stephanie Meer for having the new low-voltage lights installed at the front entrance.  It pays to go green!
Don't forget to RSVP on the Byrnwyck.org website to the July 4th cookout at the pool from 5-8pm.  $10 for adults,  $7.30 for kids over the age of 3.
Get well wishes go out to Holden Viers who underwent back surgery last week.  We wish him a speedy recovery!
Congratulations to Stella Gardner who played on the St. Pius X Girls Soccer State Championship team!  Congrats to Clare Williams who was manager of the Marist Boys Baseball team that won its 2nd straight State Championship this spring!
Congratulations to Dick Williams, chosen to be the Grand Marshal of the Dunwoody 4th of July Parade.  Most of you know that Dick is the publisher of the Dunwoody Crier , moderator of the"Georgia Gang" on Fox5,  and 25-year resident of Byrnwyck. Don't miss what is now the largest July4th parade in the state, starting at 9:30 am, traveling down Mt. Vernon Road and turning into Dunwoody Village.
Dues to some technical glitches the paper directory is somewhat delayed.  Look for the paper copy in early fall.
The Chamblee Library is in need of volunteers. Its annual book sale is Saturday and will be run by staff because of a shortage of members of Friends of the Chamblee Library. Let's help support our local library.
