Renovation Update by Tamara Schwartz
Behind the scenes work is moving ahead. As reported in recent updates, given the lively conversations over the summer, we felt strongly that it was best to slow the project down and to clarify facts and options more thoroughly. Without clear answers on the land survey questions and the County's approach, we felt that our process could get clouded with misunderstandings, and we wanted to expend the effort to remove even more uncertainties before asking the neighborhood to vote.
As a result, we had a land survey performed and met with DeKalbCounty to review site plan and flood plain issues in early September. We just submitted and got confirmation from the County on the meeting summary notes. This is a key step that really helps us understand how the County views the area and the proposed renovation.
The big takeaway is that almost everything in the pool house renovation proposal is situated in an area where we can do the planned work, and we will have flexibility to approach the project however the neighborhood approves. Moreover, they confirmed that additional parking would not be required. As a result, we have ordered and received the FEMA data needed to do the civil engineering report work the County requires to document that adjacent flood areas would not be adversely impacted. We are delighted to report that this report is being prepared at no charge to the neighborhood, and the entirety of this planning work came in below the budget amount originally approved by the board.
Once this report is prepared in the coming weeks, we will then refine the renovation proposal based on any findings, and prepare a more firm scope and budget. We will get back in touch with the County to secure site planning approvals, and we will revisit with our financing partners to set up payment options to position ourselves for a fully informed vote.

From the Tennis Courts by Anna Bonaparte
The Byrnwyck Ladies have been playing strong all through the hot weather. Have you seen the new signs on the tennis courts? During Spring ALTA the team went all the way to the City Finals and came in second. The Byrnwyck Ladies moved up three levels as a result of this. As the Summer USTA Team they won first place in the division with an undefeated season and went to playoffs.
Individuals to recognize: Pat Stockmeyer was the Division Winner for T2 Tennis Ladies Singles. Kellee Hoad was the Division Winner for the Ladies Summer USTA Doubles (along with her partner of course).
The members of the Ladies team were happy to welcome two new players to the team: Alicia Monnin and Vicki Thorne.
The Fall ALTA season ends after this Thursday and the Winter USTA season begins Nov. 11. No matter how cold it is outside the Byrwyck Ladies will be hot on the courts! (haha! )

What's Going on with Chamble High School? by Rebecca Williams
Many of you know that Chamblee Charter High School excels with top scholars, high test scores and winning teams, But did you know that the building is so dilapidated and overcrowded that in '09 it was declared in such a state of disrepair that it should be torn down and rebuilt. The long-awaited rebuild could happen IF the DeKalb Board of Education votes to use $58 million in federal Quality School Construction Bonds it has received from the federal government to rebuild our neighborhood school. Supporters are optimistic but they are encouraging a strong show of support at two upcoming meetings. Monday, Nov. 1st, the BOE will discuss the bonds at a work session, and then the critical vote will take place the following Monday, Nov. 8th. Both meetings are at 6pm at 1701 Mountain Industrial Blvd. A strong show of support at both is important. Emailing BOE members would also be helpful. Another series of meetings to discuss the Facilities Master Plan, Redistricting and Consolidation for DeKalb County Schools will begin Tues., Nov. 9th 6:30-8:30 at Chamblee High School in the gym. There is no public comment, but the audience will respond to a presentation and questions with an interactive keypad to register responses. You don't have to have a child at Chamblee to participate in any of these meetings. We are all taxpayers and this is our neighborhood school.

Good News--Wendy Butler, an outside pool member and resident of Murphy Candler has been appointed from our district to the DeKalb Planning Commission. Collette McDonald, a realtor who lives off of W. Nancy Creek, has been appointed to the DeKalb Board of Zoning Appeals. It's good to have friends of Byrnwyck on these boards that make critical decisions about development in our area. Our deepest sympathy to Libba Pickett whose mother recently passed away, and to Pat Hudgins, who recently lost her father. Losing parents is always such a profound loss. Our condolences to both families. Directory Update: We are attempting to update and print a new directory. Please respond with your updated or corrected information when you receive an email or call from a neighbor. If you haven't already registered on www.byrnwyck.org, that would be helpful as well. Don't forget to vote Nov. 2nd. Fran Millar is running to replace our former State Senator Dan Weber, and Mike Jacobs is running for re-election as our representative in the Georgia house. Of course there are important statewide races for Governor, Lt. Gov., attorney general, etc. See you at the polls at Montgomery Elementary.
