Dear Neighbors,
|
School is out, or almost out, the pool is open and Memorial Day always seems to launch the official start of the summer. In this issue, we celebrate our graduating seniors and their many accomplishments, review the annual May meeting and bring you up to date on renovation plans and other neighborhood news. Look for monthly emails to keep you informed of all the news in Byrnwyck and the good things going on in our neighborhood. Let me know if you want to add anyone to our email list.
Enjoy your summer! Rebecca Chase Williams

News from the President by Tom Halaburt
|
Wow! The turnout for the annual meeting was the highest that I can remember. Thanks to all who took time to come. The following people were elected as Board members for the coming year: President- Tom Halaburt, Secretary- Lisa Alexander, Treasurer- Dick Hartung, Community- Rebecca Williams, Safety- Bill Meers, Tennis- Ed Johnson, Social- Tamara Schwartz, Grounds & Membership- Stephanie Meers, Covenants- Libba Pickett and Suzette Snell. The pool position is still open and we are looking for someone who wants to do their part for the neighborhood.
In the approved budget, we are set to break even as we continue to ensure that we balance the goal of maintaining the grounds and pool as well as keep the dues to a level that covers our costs.
We currently have 141 residents who are members of the Byrnwyck Community Association, leaving 18 households who are non-members. We would love to have everyone join the BCA to support our neighborhood to keep it beautiful and the property values strong. We also welcome back our outside members as this is a great way for neighboring families to join our parties, the swim team and its a great way to market our neighborhood to potential buyers.
We were also presented with an update from the Renovation Committee. We are lucky to have a talented group of neighbors step up and take time to organize ideas and options for an overall renovation of the grounds. As you know, we have 10 acres of common ground by the pool that really is a jewel within our neighborhood. Over the years, there has been increased interest in upgrading the facilities but as you can imagine, upgrade means different things to different people. The intent of the Renovation Committee was to come up with a plan to start the discussions, with the goal of eventually having a neighborhood vote. We also recognize that the renovations are going to cost money, which is a sensitive subject and one that the Board will ensure that we have full transparency.
Do we have a mandate to move forward with the renovations?
In our last survey, 68% of the vote suggested that we improve the bathrooms. The challenge will be to bring other features up to code as well. We believe that there is a majority of members who want to do something....the key is defining the something. Nanette Retires - Pool Board member needed
After 6 years of dedication to the pool and our neighborhood, Nanette Vaughn has decided to step down as the board member who oversees the pool operations. Nanette has been a strong advocate for the pool and worked closely with our pool management company to make our pool such a great asset. We are lucky to have her as a neighbor. Thank You Nanette for your many years of service!
We are looking for someone to take the lead in overseeing the pool area and coordinating with our pool management company. Please contact me if you would be willing to help with this job.

Renovations Committee Update by Tamara Schwartz
|
We had lively and thoughtful discussions at our two "Meet the Architect" meetings and have now
posted the proposed plans by the pool for everyone to come see.
We have done a lot more work on reviewing preliminary budgets, and have reviewed our bylaws to clarify the voting procedure as we expect to hold a vote this summer. We have also calculated some financing options based on a project in the mid-six figures. We are preparing full information packets, which you should look for in your mailboxes in the coming days. We look forward to speaking more with everyone in the BCA as we move forward on making some decision.
