Dear Neighbors, Are you ready for another season at the beautiful Byrnwyck pool?
The pool will open on May 22nd and we are looking forward to another fun-filled summer! Join us for the Opening Pool Party that evening from 6-9pm. We will have a DJ and a catered dinner to celebrate. Adults $10, children $7.50. RSVP on www.byrnwyck.org. RSVP Now!
Also please join us at the Annual Meeting on Saturday, May 15th at 10am. We will have an update from a group of neighbors who have been meeting to discuss and review plans for improving the pool grounds area. They have worked very hard and there are some exciting option to review and discuss.
We are also looking for a neighbor to step into the pool manager role. After six years, Nanette Vaughn will be stepping down. She has done a fantastic job and deserves our heartfelt thanks. The role involves working with the pool management company to ensure that the pool is in good working condition and to work with the Board to address any concerns and issues that come up.
Our facilities and activities are dependent on our volunteers who are willing to help keep up on facilities and work with the board on new ideas and initiatives. Thanks to Dick Hartung who has stepped up as treasurer and to the many neighbors working on pool improvements. You have recently received a dues notice from him. Please send your checks in as soon as possible. Here's to a great summer season!

Grounds Update by Stephanie Meer
| What a fantastic spring! Here are a few things I'm working on: FRONT ENTRANCE: I am currently soliciting proposals on upgrading the lights at the front entrance, replacing the often-malfunctioning high voltage lights with low voltage or LED lights. Both options will reduce our energy costs and beautify our entrance. The plan is to uplight the columns on either side of the entrance and the trees in the center island. I have also been working with DeKalb County on the water break and the necessary repairs to the curbing and road. The county has a policy to wait for five weeks after a repair to make sure the leak has been corrected but we are hoping the repairs will be finished by mid May assuming we have no further water breaks. POOL AND TENNIS GROUNDS: The floods this years washed away some of the paths, took down 9 trees and left sand covering grassy areas. There is no easy or cheap fix to the problem and I am open to suggestions. Some has suggested we just plant grass seed although we have no sprinkler system or way to keep people and animals off of the areas. I will also continue to work with the civil engineer and architect involved in the pool renovations to understand how we can best slow the erosion from the creek.

Welcome to our email newsletter. Hope you enjoy it and if you prefer not to receive it, just click the "unsubscribe" button. You can also update your email. We also need all Byrnwyck residents to register their updated information on www.byrnwyck.org so we can have correct directory information. We are also getting ready to print a hard-copy directory and need your updated information as well. This is important so your neighbors can reach you, especially for emergency purposes. You can also email me at byrnwyck@gmail.com with this information. If your child wants to be listed as being available for babysitting, yard work, mail pick up, or pet sitting please let me know if you want that information listed in the directory. I will soon be putting together our annual profile of graduating high school seniors. Please email me a picture and a short paragraph of information about your senior--school, college plans, activities, awards or honors, summer plans etc. We love to read about our neighborhood young people and hate to leave anyone out. Please feel free to send me news of your family that we can share with neighbors. Have a happy Mother's Day!
Sincerely,

| Exciting News from the Renovation Committeeby Tamara Schwartz The renovation committee's hard work over the past year entered a new phase at the end of April as the architects presented their first draft designs. Square Foot Studios, the firm selected through the vigorous RFP process, met with the team to share several approaches to meeting the interests voiced by Byrnwyck residents in the survey last year. They presented low, medium and high-end options with solutions for the three key concerns raised by Byrnwyck members: expanding the parking, improving the bathrooms and enhancing the community areas. The committee examined the draft plans, as well as the comprehensive code review that the firm prepared (to lay out the issues we'll face with zoning and permitting as we move ahead). We thought a lot about being financially responsible with the direction we are taking, and making sure we propose something that doesn't change the nature of what we already have and love at our pool. We also thought about making sure the changes we propose can last for the long term, since projects likely only occur every 10-15 years or more. Finally, we thought about all the different kinds of changes our contemporaries are doing at their nearly facilities, to make sure that we support and continue to attract the outside members that are so vital for Byrnwyck's financial viability and social scene. Following several lively discussions, and lots of back and forth over what we'd like to see in the renovated facilities, the committee came to an agreement about a preliminary design. We look forward to sharing an overview of this at the annual meeting on May 15th, as well as at in-depth meetings in the following weeks. The committee is also focused on investigating the best way to finance the work, taking into account the various appetites for spending that Byrnwyck members may have. We know that not everyone shares the same visions for what the facilities should be and we are committed to an open process that helps bring the neighborhood together as we build a consensus we can be proud of. Please follow along on the discussion boards at www.byrnwyck.org Read blog now
