PRESIDENT GRACE SEARS HAS CALLED FOR A TRIENNIAL SERVICE PROJECT!

LIVING OUT OUR VOW OF SERVICE...

It's very simple, and will not take up much room in your luggage. The Julian Center is nonprofit agency providing counseling, safe shelter and education for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other life crises in the Diocese of Indianapolis. It grew from a referral center to trauma therapy to the largest residential facility in Indiana for domestic violence survivors.

Please consider bringing one or more of the following new items for the women and children who reside at the Center: women's socks or underwear, children's socks or underwear, combs and brushes, African American hair care products, bows and barrettes for girls, washcloths, disposable razors, sippy cups, and books for children and young adults (new or gently used). (Please note: Travel size shampoos and lotions, etc., are NOT needed for the Julian Center.) There will be a collection site at Triennial. THANK YOU!

PHOTOGRAPHER ON SITE FOR TRIENNIAL

A professional photographer will be available during Triennial, starting Wednesday, June 27 for Province dinners, through Sunday morning Eucharist.  There will be a sign up at Registration for individuals, small group and large group photos.  Great opportunity to capture new friends, chapter, diocesan, and even province groups! For details, contact Susan O'Brien, Province V President.

TRAVELING BY AIR

ON TUESDAY, JUNE 26 AND WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27, Province V as the Host province, and the Diocese of Indianapolis as our local host, will have volunteers who greet you at the Baggage Claim area and direct you to the Marriott/LaQuinta Shuttle, which is free. They will be wearing special aprons and their Crosses. At other times go to or call for a Taxi/Limo service at your own expense (approximately $45 one way).

Are you Praying for your Delegates and Deputies?

Not all of us can attend the Daughters of the King Triennial.  If even half of us could get together at one time, we would need space for more than ten thousand women!  As it is, we're preparing for plus or minus 500.

Yet all of us can and should be involved.  We send our present and future leaders to Triennial every three years to do more than meet and greet and shop. Triennial participants seek to know not only what God would have them do individually, but also what God would have us do corporately, as a whole body of praying and serving women. Through speakers, workshops, music, discussions, and healing services, minds and hearts are touched.  Delegates get a larger perspective on what God is doing through the Order, and how we may be called to be part of it. They make decisions for all of us, and to discern the best way forward they need to listen carefully to God and to one another.

If you are not going to Triennial, are you praying for those who will go? Make sure their names are on your prayer list!  And pray for everyone there - the speakers and presenters, the juniors, the international guests, the chaplains and other clergy, the Council and volunteers - even the hotel and their staff!

Last August we sent out a prayer vigil form, with space to sign up to pray regularly both for Triennial and for General Convention, which starts with a bang on July 4!  Episcopal Daughters should ask their priest to encourage the whole congregation to pray regularly for General Convention and sign a prayer vigil sheet.

We asked that the forms be returned with the names of those praying by May 15.  That date has passed, but if you still have not sent in your form it can probably be added to the notebook Marge Rogers and Missy Denney plan to display at our General convention exhibit booth. They will also have a place at their booth to collect prayer requests, and pray for them at the end of each day.  Send it to the office, attention Marge Rogers, or directly to her New York address (in the Royal Cross).

Do you know the names of the deputies that will represent your diocese at General Convention?  Those names should be on your prayer lists as well, along with your bishop! Each deputy will be intensely focused for long hours all through General Convention, and consider many difficult topics. Let them know you are praying for them.

Lord, what will you have us do?

Jesus is Alive!!
As we made our journey out of Lent into Easter we became aware that the journey of faith is no easy task. Time in the wilderness made us aware of many temptations, but also of the abundance grace of God helping us to go forward in our journey.
On that first Easter Sunday the persons who visited the tomb where Jesus was laid loved and cared about Jesus; they were his followers. They took some serious risks to visit the tomb. Among them was Mary Magdalene. She had sinned much and she loved much; and love was all that she had to bring.
Though it was the custom in Palestine to visit the tomb of a loved one for three days after the body had been laid to rest, I am sure that Mary was there for a different reason. It was believed that for three days the spirit of the dead person hovered round the tomb; but then it departed because the body had become unrecognizable through decay.
Mary came to the tomb very early because she could no longer stay away from Jesus. She arrived at the tomb and was shocked as she noticed that the stone that covered the tomb was removed. The first thing that occurred to her was to tell the others what she had seen and to get help in finding the body of Jesus. This is a natural way to react in this type of situation. Mary needed help and was not afraid to go out and seek help.
But after she had informed the disciples, she went back to the tomb and there she stood weeping because she did not know where they had taken the body of Jesus. She wanted even the dead body so that she could at least weep over it. She realized how lonely she was without the presence of Jesus and that was very painful for her.
Then Jesus appeared to her but she could not recognize him.  Perhaps her tears blinded her eyes so she could not see clearly. That is natural and inevitable for those who have lost a loved one. At the same time, we must never allow our tears to blind us to the presence of the Lord.
According to the Gospel of John, Mary could not recognize Jesus because she was facing the wrong direction. Because she was looking at the tomb she had her back to Jesus. So often this happens to us as well. We pay attention to other things rather than facing Jesus and recognizing his presence.
Then came the magic word from Jesus, a single word: "Mary!" and her response, a single answer: "Master!"  Mary did not need that many words from Jesus to recognize his voice; just hearing him say her name she knew it was he, her Master.
He continues to call us by our names so that we can recognize that it is our Master calling us. We need to listen because he has a task for each of us just as he had a task for Mary. "Do not touch me," Jesus said to her. "Go to my brethren and say to them that I am going to ascend to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God." In other words the task was to go and tell her story. The task is the same for us today: "Go and tell your story."
Mary went as Jesus had told her and she took the message to the disciples along with the news: "I have seen the Lord."  This is the very essence of Christianity. We must be able to tell the news: "I have seen the Lord." It is not so much knowing about the Lord, but more importantly "knowing him." In our journey we must experience that Jesus is alive. Then we can catch the fire of Pentecost and tell our story.

The Brink of a Bright Future

Greetings to all my sisters in Christ in the Order of the Daughters of the King and a special hello to DAL!  I am so excited to be writing this letter to you this spring, as we are all busy preparing for major events.

In May, it seems that time speeds up.  My oldest daughter, Grace, has only 10 more days until high school graduation! She is terribly emotional with so many decisions to make. For instance, she is a Jr. DOK and can transition up to Senior DOK at Triennial.  Should she? Is it the right time? Yesterday, she registered for her college classes and her housing. She cried for two hours afterwards! She is on the brink of a bright future but is anxious about the unknown. We all have so many "unknowns" in our lives, and this is the first of many for her. What advice should I give to the graduating senior? Pray unceasingly and keep your sisters in Christ close to support you!

Praying unceasingly and keeping our sisters close is what we'll be doing at the Province III Retreat & Assembly June 1-3 in Silver Spring, MD.  Many Daughters have taken part in the planning and preparation of this wonderful time together. Over 100 DOK will attend this retreat to be refreshed and encouraged in what it means to be a Daughter, what it means to pray, serve and evangelize.  It will be a time of reflection, refreshment and renewal for all, and I can't wait to be part of it!

I also can't wait to be part of Triennial 2012. There are few things in life more powerful than 600 like-minded women praying and seeking the Lord at the same time! I encourage you if you haven't already done so, make plans to attend. It is not too late to register for Triennial. Your national council has been working solidly for three years to make this the best Triennial ever! "Looking to Jesus Spreading His Love" is the theme, and we will set out to do just that.  A plethora of workshops including a workshop for DAL have been planned and over 20 vendor/exhibitors will be on hand for your enjoyment.

As you can see, May proves to be a time of preparation for several exciting events in the life of Daughters. I give thanks to you for supporting us in prayer. I look forward to being together and sharing these events with you. Finally, I covet your prayers for our Order and its spiritual growth as we continue to look to Jesus and spread His love!
