Bits and Pieces

Nomination for National Council

Standing for National Council is a privilege and

commitment.  The nominee should feel called to stand. Whoever you want to nominate might want to talk to a current or former member of council about their experience to get a clearer picture of what will be expected of her if she is elected to the council.

When you have questions whom do you ask?

It can be confusing as to whom to ask in order to get your questions answered. On the inside cover of the Royal Cross is a list of council members and the areas of their responsibility. Most questions will be able to be answered by the Province President or elected council member.

If you have a question about an order you have placed or you are not receiving your Royal Cross then please call the National Office.

FaceBook Update

There are now 622 members of the FaceBook group "Order of the Daughters of the King". It is an open group and all are invited to join. This is a very interactive group with prayer requests and reports of chapter activities. We have had some requests to add someone to the group but we are unable to fufill those requests. FaceBook requires that those that want to join make their own request by going to the group wall and clicking "Ask to join group".

Service

As Daughters of the King we are called to SERVE. The first thing we think of is to serve others. We serve meals at soup kitchens, we serve the church on Altar Guild and just about anything else. We serve our families and our community.   We will serve by bringing small gifts when we come to triennial next year.   We follow our rule of life and serve in any capacity God calls us to serve.

Now think for a minute do we ever serve ourselves. I just returned from a retreat/pilgrimage to the Holy Lands. It was wonderful to be in the land that our Savior Jesus Christ walked. It was an eye opener for me because this was not just a sightseeing tour, we focused on prayer and mediation. The trip also focused on the women of the bible and their roles, women who served family, communities and nations. They served in whatever God called them to do. Times may have changed but we have not changed. As I mediated on their stories I felt the great sacrifice they made, just as Christ sacrificed for us. This trip made me think of my role of service. I am a doer, I like to keep busy, I love helping others. Sometimes I feel like the energizer bunny, go , go , go. While I was away, away from all those things that keep me so busy, it gave me a chance to evaluate what was happening in my life. This is the conclusion I came up with.

We need to serve others, that is what our rule of life calls us to do. What I want you to think about is serving yourself just a bit. I came to realize this trip was a service to myself. I never or very seldom go away without my husband. It is hard for me to leave our son who lives with us and is not well. It is hard to leave my hospice patient who is actively dying. It is hard to leave all the commitments I have. It was hard to leave but I needed time for myself to be fed and refocus.   I learned so much on this trip but I think one of the most important lessons for me, was that it is OK to serve yourself. We found that out last spring when Province I had their retreat. We had not been together for a while and that time together was so energizing for all of us. That is why it is so important for us to have quiet time, either alone or with other Daughters for a Quiet Day. Take time to server yourself in prayer, mediation and peaceful quiet. Then go forth and SERVE.
