First DOK chapter established in the Middle East

PRESS RELEASE

JERUSALEM - CHRIST CHURCH

FIRST DAUGHTERS OF THE KING

CHAPTER ESTABLISHED
IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Jerusalem2011
L-R The Rev. David Pileggi, Rector of Christ Church; Carol Pileggi, Pam Runyon, International Chair; Sharon Lundgren, past president; and Dr. Rosemarie Valentine, visiting from Rome, Italy

The Rev. David Pileggi, Rector of Christ Church, Jerusalem, instituted the first chapter of the Order of the Daughters of King® in Israel on September 11, 2011.  Representatives from the USA and Italy were in attendance to present the charter and admit the new Daughters of the King.  Daughters take a vow to pray and serve daily and witness to others of Jesus, the Messiah, in such a way that others are drawn to follow Him.  The Order dates back to 1885 in America, and now are in 14 other countries, with a world-wide membership of more than 25,000 women and girls.

The Order is part of the world-wide Anglican Communion.

Christ Church is the oldest Protestant church in the Middle East, dating to 1843, and this is the first Daughters of the King chapter to be instituted in any church in the Middle East.

IN MEMORY OF DEPARTED DAUGHTERS

November 1st is the Ingathering of funds for the Endowment Fund and  contributions can be given as a memorial for a Daughter of the King.  I pray that you will remember the work our departed Daughters have done for The Order.  The National Council will offer up the names of departed Daughters at a meditation time on Saturday, Oct. 29th.  Please join us on Nov. 1st at 7 pm in your time zone to pray for Daughters departed, those serving at this time, and future Daughters.  Check with Chapter and Diocesan Presidents for specific Daughters to pray for.  Litanies for Daughters of the King Departed can be found in the Chapter Manual.

Dear Heavenly Father, we bless you for all those who have departed this life in your faith and fear, especially your Daughter, our sister, N., who worked to fulfill your will on earth through prayer and service in the Order.  May her faith and example inspire other women and girls to greater and more faithful labor for you.  Grant the light of your presence and the glory of the life beyond to be her greatest and everlasting reward.  Amen.

National Council Nominee Form  January 1, 2012

Is there a by-law requiring that Daughters come to meetings?

The simple answer is "no". I have heard this discussion since I joined the Order 30 years ago. I have heard this discussion in chapters among members, at chapter presidents' meetings at assemblies and at the provincial level among diocesan presidents. So I should not have been surprised when the topic came up on the first province presidents' conference call. But, I was.

The truth is that all of us are hurt when we bestow our emblem on someone and she never comes back. How can we prevent this? I believe it is incumbent upon every daughter to be in discernment as a novitiate begins her period of discernment. We must ask ourselves hard questions.

Has your trainer impressed upon her that she is joining an order?

Has your trainer impressed upon her that she is expected to be a regular and productive member of the Order, attending meetings and going to Assemblies?  Do you go to Assemblies? How can you expect a novice to understand that this is an Order if you treat it as a local club? Be connected.

Does she attend church regularly?

Does she attend Bible studies?

Is she known as a woman who wants to pray? The Order teaches women and girls to grow in prayer and service and evangelism.

What are her demeanor/her reputation at church and in the community?

We are not seeking joiners, but neither do we want to signal that only pillars of the church need apply.

Is someone putting pressure on her to join? She should feel she is being called by the Holy Spirit.

Have you talked to your priest about her? Can he recommend her to the Order?

Would you consider adding another three months to the period of discernment? A longer period of discernment would benefit her and the chapter. This could be a time of getting acquainted by way of doing three months of study together.

We want women who are capable of living out our rules of prayer, service, and evangelism. Is her prayer life sacred to her? Can she offer her time and service to our Lord at church or any service you offer in the community? Our cross is an emblem of evangelism. Does she glorify God when she is in the community? Remember, we are not seeking perfect women, we want them to feel at home with us.

We must be deliberate and intentional when we consider new members.
