Jr Daughters

The Alpha Fund was established at the 2009 Triennial Convention to develop and support the Junior Daughter ministry. It provides financial support to Junior Directresses in their efforts to extend Christ's kingdom among young women and girls. Named in honor of the first Junior Chapter, the Alpha Fund is used to begin new Junior chapters, strengthen existing ones, and provide assistance for retreats, service projects and activities. The ingathering date is in honor of Mother Theresa who passed away September 5, 1997.

Spotlight on Las Hijas del Rey

Dominican Republic

¿Habla usted español?

If you speak Spanish I have some good news! Spanish translations of our revised DOK materials are now available. The 2010 Spanish National Study Guide can be downloaded from our website, www.doknational.com, or ordered through the National Office.  In addition, the 2009 Spanish National Handbook and the Jr. DOK Handbook will be available from the National Office by September 1.  I am so very grateful to all the Daughters and friends who have prayerfully translated and edited these new materials for our Spanish-speaking sisters in the US and around the world.

¡Muchas gracias!

Las Hijas del Rey in the Dominican Republic--5th National Assembly

On Sept. 24 Las Hijas del Rey in the DR will hold their 5th National Assembly at San Jose Church in Boca Chica.  Joining in the celebration will be Lindy Kirk, 1st VP of Province IV.  Lindy and I were both blessed to be part of the Province IV delegation that attended the DR's first National Assembly in 2007.  We were humbled and awed by the way these Daughters honor their vows of prayer and service-pouring themselves out for others, often in the midst of difficult circumstances.

Las Hijas del Rey in the DR have continued to grow since their first chapter was formed in 2000.  There are now over 150 Daughters, with 4 new Senior chapters added this year and their first 2 Junior chapters in formation.  Since assembling, Dominican Daughters have been inspired by the strong leadership of National President, Srta. Virginia Norman, who was named Woman of the Century by the Episcopal Church in the DR!

News from Mexico

We are hopeful that the first chapter of Las Hijas del Rey will be formed in Mexico in the  near future.  Sandy Graciano, a DOK from San Antonio, has been invited to lead the study in Monterrey this fall, and there is interest in other parts of the diocese as well.  Her visit was previously scheduled for last December, but was postponed due to drug-related violence in the area.  Please keep Sandy and the Diocese of Northern Mexico in your prayers.  And please pray for Las Hijas del Rey, wherever they may be throughout the world:  in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, and the USA.

2011 Junior Directress Retreat

2011 Jr Directress Retreat

The 2011 Junior Directress retreat was a truly blessed event.  We had a lot of fun and accomplished so much.  So many prayers were lifted up on our behalf for this event and God answered those prayers so beautifully and we are truly thankful.

Thirty-seven Directresses from around the country gathered at St. Christopher Retreat and Conference Center to be nurtured as Junior Directresses, to work in community to grow the ministry of the Junior Daughters, and to share our stories, collect ideas and fellowship in the overwhelming presence of the Holy Spirit.

Rev. Susan Claytor did a wonderful job leading our retreat.  She led us in an excellent 'sharing of ideas' session followed by a Service of Blessing and Rededication. We were truly blessed to have Mother Susan as our spiritual leader.

By breaking into three groups we were able to revise the drafts of the two new Study Guides for our Junior Daughters, one for ages 11 and under and one for ages 12 and over; and revise the draft of the Leader's Guide and Directress Manual.  All the materials will be sent to the National Council for approval.  We also put together a fantastic program for the Juniors for the 2012 Triennial.

While we worked a lot we also had fun and were renewed in our commitment to our young sisters in Christ.  We drew strength from each other, from the words of our founding mother, Mary C. Davenport, whose inspiration of leading young women to Jesus began the Junior Department; and of course from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Thank you to everyone who held us in prayer; thanks to Vicky Armes, and all the ladies of the Diocese of South Carolina for their support.  Special thanks to the kind souls who shuttled Directresses to and from the airport.  And to all the ladies who provided refreshments, we truly appreciated your kind hospitality.

And thanks be to God, for God is good...All the time!!

An apology from the editor of The Royal Cross

Triennial RC cover

A failure to communicate....

The Royal Cross you received this month with all the forms for Triennial registration had two pages out of order.  Did you wonder which way to open it? The inside front cover and inside back cover are transposed. The printing company, where over 23,000 copies are prepared and mailed, didn't make the mistake; I didn't give them clear direction as to the order of pages in this slightly unusual format.

Triennial information for Junior Daughters suffered the most, as their article starts on one page near the back and jumps to the inside front cover. In spite of this, I trust JDOK and their Directresses can sort out the pages and begin their plans for attending the Triennial next summer in Indianapolis.

After you remove the staples from this issue, you will have a complete packet of letter-size forms for registration, hotel reservations, nominee for National Council, workshop proposals, exhibitor registration, and a new form called "Prayer Vigil"--an important activity in which ALL Daughters can participate even if they do not attend the Triennial Retreat next summer. If you need extra forms, feel free to make copies.

More detailed information for JDOK, as well as for all Daughters, will be in upcoming issues of The Royal Cross, so stay tuned. Again, my apologies!

Please prayerfully consider attending Triennial next summer. It will be a wonderful time of celebration, reuniting with your sisters from all over the United States and the world, and praising our King and Savior, Jesus Christ.
