Blogging/ Social Media

Have you ever had a heated argument with someone and maybe said something not too flattering? What if you decided to type your thoughts on Twitter or Facebook? Is it different? In today's world of technology, everyone is finding new ways to talk and express themselves to a mass audience. Sometimes that is not the intention. It could just be an anger release,  or run of the mill gossip to your friends. Now there are many sites that have been created to let the regular internet user have an outlet to express themselves. Be it tweeting, blogging or updating your status, it is out there and being recorded in the large capacity of cyberspace.

The problem is that when people are talking to their "friends" on these networks, there are other people that might be a friend of a friend, who may see your post. Or an employer, boss, customer or ex, might read it. You never really know who can see what you write. Once posted, these are public, archived and searchable. When people are ranting in this type of setting they forget that they are giving up the privacy that we all once had. Facebook has become a divorce lawyer's new friend. The desire to talk trash can be overwhelming in a divorce. But the judge has the ability to look at your page just as anyone else would.

In terms of defamation, libel or slander, standards are the same on the Internet as elsewhere in the public domain, when the reputation of another has been harmed. Paul Hannah, a First Amendment attorney with Kelly & Berens, said damages could be "astronomical" because of the potential size of the audience that might see an offending reference in cyberspace. "To put something (defaming) in a neighborhood shopper is one thing. To put it on the Internet is totally different," he said. "If you slander someone, they can point to thousands of viewers who saw that."

Personal injury protection is an endorsement that can be part of your homeowners insurance policy. Coverage is not limited to slander. It can also extend to many other offenses. These would include; invasion of privacy, wrongful entry, false arrest, or malicious prosecution. In other words it covers injuries that are not physical.

First Car Facts....

On   June 4, 1896, the first road test of the first Ford car was delayed an hour because the car was wider than the door of the shed in which Henry Ford built it. With an ax, he ripped out the door frame. After that problem was solved, he made a successful first test run with his car on a nighttime drive through the streets of Detroit. This self propelled vehicle, the Quadricycle, had four wire wheels that looked like heavy bicycle wheels. It was steered with a tiller like a boat and had only two forward speeds, with no reverse. Although Ford was not the first to build a self propelled vehicle with a gasoline engine, he was, however, one of the pioneers who helped this country become a nation of motorists.

Henry Ford was ultimately  famous for making the Model T that eventually "Put America on wheels". The first Model T was built on September 27, 1908. The Model T was the first vehicle to be mass produced on an assembly line, which was also invented by Henry Ford. The standard 4 seat open tourer of 1909 cost $850 (equivalent to $20,300 today) . By  1915 the price dropped to $440 ( equivalent to $9,340 today). That would have been four months pay for an assembly line worker. Mr. Ford found a use for everything. Outside suppliers would send him wooden crates to hold his shipments. He would disassemble them and use the preformed wood pieces in the bodies of his cars . He also would use the wood scraps to make charcoal and sold it under the name Kingsford.

fordThe first license plate law in the U.S. was passed in 1901 in the state of New York. The original license plates were made by the car owner. Common materials used were tin, copper, wood and leather. The plates were engraved with the owners initials, making the original license plates also vanity plates. Pre-numbered plates were introduced in 1903. Just in time for the first speeding ticket in 1904.
