Message From The President It's been a very busy week in Annapolis! Both Chambers are in the midst of finalizing their budget plans and the House has been holding work sessions on the Maintenance of Effort (MOE) legislation. By the end of this week, the Senate will have approved its budget and the House budget committee will have made its budget recommendations.
As you know, the Senate budget plan does include a transfer of teacher pension costs to local governments, and it appears the House is moving in this direction as well. Although MACo is opposed to the pension shift, we hope to work with both the House and Senate as the budget is being finalized to make this shift more bearable for the counties. We are doing the same on the MOE legislation.
At this time, I ask that you keep the pressure on! Continue making those calls to your legislators in opposition to both the pension shift and MOE. You are making a difference! Sincerely,
Ingrid M. Turner, Esquire Prince George's County Council Member
