Money, Power, & Politics Lectures
Sunday, October 14
1:30 p.m.
Economic inequality in the United States has grown like a snowball rolling down a hill. This has led to a widening gap in opportunity between the rich and everyone else. Professor Daniel Markovits, Yale University Professor of Law, will propose solutions to the problem of snowball inequality that can preserve individual freedom and reaffirm capitalism's core values against distortions that threaten to undermine them from within.
Tuesday, October 30
7:30 p.m.

Why Are People Who Don't Agree with Your Political Views So Irrational? Why is there so much division in the country about welfare, abortion, school prayer, gun control...to name a few?
The lecture will use the concepts from the new field of "moral psychology" to explain why political, ethical, and personal decisions cannot be entirely shaped by logic and reason or resolved by argument. The program will be based on the recently published book The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion by Jonathan Haidt.
