Come on down and see who Elwood has become this year at the third annual Books, BBQ and Blues fundraising event to benefit the Blackstone Library. Enjoy an afternoon of great music, delicious BBQ and a ton of fun!

The book swap is back, too! Bring in your gently used children's books to the library and get a ticket for each book. Then at BB&B Book Swap, trade in each ticket for a book! It's a great way to get something new for the kids to read.

seretta martin picture Seretta Martin is the author and artist of Foreign Dust, Familiar Rain, Selected Poems, and is a 2011 recipient of a grant from the James Irvine Foundation and Poets and Writers and a featured poet of the Border Voices "Virtual" ITV Poetry Fair & Annual. Her first translations, those of the Lithuanian poet, Sonata Paliulytė, appeared in the San Diego Poetry Annual 2011.

Seretta's poems range from the humorous to the sensual, from more traditional free verse (such as
Thunder at Coffee Break) to experimental "nonce" forms, including odd and provocative pseudo-Haikus. P

Containing recipes, essays, and "love letters" from her beloved customers, this book is filled with
highlights and reflections from 35 years of running a landmark vegetarian restaurant.

Claire Criscuolo cofounded Claire's Corner Copia, a New Haven, Connecticut, landmark vegetarian restaurant, in 1975 with her husband, Frank Criscuolo. A certified culinary professional, Claire is also a registered nurse and the author of three cookbooks, including Claire's Corner Copia Cookbook, Claire's Italian Feast, and Claire's Classic American Vegetarian Cooking. galaxyIt's time to reach for the stars as we bring the wonders of outer space indoors with the Children's Museum of West Hartford! During this hour long presentation participants will be introduced to the cosmos and constellations with their portable planetarium!  

 

Participants will not only learn the science behind the stars but also a variety of Greek, Roman and Chinese myths that came from their display.

Are you an actor or a playwright? Join us for the monthly gathering of New Plays at the Blackstone on the second Monday of every month. Our group has two primary goals: to nurture individual theater artists, and to develop new plays by local writers. These monthly meetings give playwrights the opportunity to hear their works read by local actors. New Plays at the Blackstone also produces staged readings for the benefit of local charities.
