Take Your Child to the Library Day

We Take Your Child to the Librarycordially invite you to come to the library for fun, crafts, prizes and a few surprises to celebrate the 'Year of the Water Dragon' through Take Your Child to Library Day!

 

Head to the Blackstone Library any time between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m to construct paper mache dragons, enjoy a special pinata and figure out your own "Year of" animal. Craft is appropriate for 1st thru 4th graders. Registration is required. Please call (203) 488 1441 ext. 323.

 

From 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. visit the Willoughby Wallace Library to take in a variety of special games and crafts, along with a storyteller the whole family will enjoy!

Dr. Church will cover what's good and why and what might not be such a great idea to eat and how this relates to your overall health.  Also covered will be some common nutritional pitfalls that most people make while thinking they are eating correctly. We will explore good food substitutions to common "junk food" choices. Included will be an overview of nutritional supplements and how not to waste money on useless or inferior vitamins. Finally, we will address how this affects health and longevity as according to the latest research.

Join us at the Blackstone Library for the next Friends lecture on swing bands of the 1940's and their ballads. Dr. Thomas C. Duffy, the Director of Bands at Yale University and a professor in the Yale School of Music, will present examples from the music of Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Walter Page, and Fletcher Henderson.

Join Tom Anderson, author of This Fine Piece of Water: An Environmental History of Long Island Sound. Long Island Sound is not only the most heavily used estuary in North America, it is also one of the most beautiful waterways, with picturesque seascapes and landfalls. But centuries of pollution and other abuse have gradually been killing off its marine life and have pushed the Sound to the brink of disaster.

Tom Anderson will discuss the history of the Sound and its use as a resource from the time of contact between the Native Americans and Dutch traders through the suburban sprawl of recent decades-and how a group of scientists and citizens has been working to save the Sound from ruin. This lecture is free and open to the public.

Our group has two primary goals: to nurture individual theater artists, and to develop new plays by local writers.
