Our 17th annual Sonoran Stars fundraising event will feature a gourmet dinner prepared by the award-winning Tonto Bar & Grill. The outdoor benefit begins at 5 p.m. with a cocktail hour and a silent auction followed by the spectacular release of a rehabilitated raptor from the nonprofit Wild at Heart rehabilitation facility. The event also features a live auction after dinner, which will include select coveted items.
This year we are thrilled to feature entertainment by the Sons of the Pioneers- a classic Western music act from Missouri. The Sons of the Pioneers are included in the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Western Music Hall of Fame, have two songs in the Grammy Hall of Fame, and have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They've even been named a "National Treasure" by the Smithsonian Institute!
The original members of Sons of the Pioneers, including Roy Rogers, penned such classics as Tumbling Tumbleweed, Cool Water and Ghost Riders in the Sky. In fact, they are responsible for a tremendous number of classic songs that have been played by so many others that it is easy to forget that the Sons of the Pioneers are the originators.
This year's event truly offers a rare opportunity to see such a fabulous band perform. They are icons among classic Western music performers, and we are excited to finally have them join us at Sonoran Stars! SPECIAL THANKS to our 2012 SONORAN STARS SPONSORS!

Pre-registration is required. Additionally, volunteers are still needed. Join the Town of Cave Creek in this race to protect some of our community's most treasured open space!
Sat. 4/14, 9 am Preserve at the Cave Guided Hike* Visit this unique feature along Cave Creek - source of the name of the creek and town. The cave has supported human inhabitants for centuries, as evidenced by both pictographs and petroglyphs. We will also explore the important riparian habitat along Cave Creek. This property is privately owned and permanently protected by a conservation easement held by the Land Trust. It is not open to the public. This is a relatively flat, easy hike, but it is occasionally off-trail and rocky, and could include a wet stream crossing. Fri. 4/20, 3 pm Black Mountain Summit Guided Hike* Hikers will trek to the top of iconic Black Mountain for spectacular views and a cardiovascular workout. The trail is rugged and the elevation change is significant, so prepare for a difficult, but beautiful and rewarding, hike. *Registration for guided hikes is required. Please register at hikes@dflt.org or 480-488-6131 at least one day before the hike to let us know how many people will be attending with your group. This allows us to share the meeting location, directions, special instructions or cancelations with you. Fri. 4/21, 10 am-3 pm Cave Creek Earth Day Event at the Foothills Community Foundation - Holland Community Center Visit with vendors and nonprofits to learn about sustainability, conservation and environmental issues. Stop by the Land Trust's booth to say hello! |
