| RSVP for the 20th Anniversary Celebration! | |
Twenty years ago, our community came together to protect the landscape they love. Filled with energy and anticipation, these community leaders founded Desert Foothills Land Trust in order to identify, acquire and permanently protect some of our region's most special and sensitive natural areas.
Now protecting more than 620 acres on 16 preserves, the Land Trust is continuing its important land protection work and engaging the community directly in land conservation.
We hope you will join us on Thursday, December 1 from 5-7 pm for a cocktail reception to celebrate this community legacy, and to look toward the next 20 years!
$50 admission per person. The RSVP deadline is coming up fast! Please RSVP by November 23 to 480-488-6131 or e-mail us at info@dflt.org. Special thanks to the generous hosts of this event!

| Black Mountain Photo Contest Finalists! | |
Desert Foothills Land Trust is pleased to announce the finalists in the Black Mountain Photo Contest. Professional photographers Don Asakawa, Alan Lowy and Jerry Sieve reviewed nearly 70 entries and chose 15 finalists.
The winning photos were on display for voting for the People's Choice Award at the Cave Creek Museum, the Cave Creek Bicycle Festival and the Desert Foothills Library. Voting has concluded, but the display will remain at the Library until early December. Votes were also collected on the Land Trust's Facebook page and the photos are still viewable there. The People's Choice Award winner will be featured on the cover of the 2012 Black Mountain Photo Contest calendar, which will be revealed at a reception for the contest entrants on December 7.

"We were just blown away by the quality of photos submitted and the obvious love entrants feel for Black Mountain. We are grateful to all the people who submitted photos, and for the community's support of our work to protect Black Mountain and our beautiful Sonoran Desert," said Executive Director Sonia Perillo.
Desert Foothills Land Trust is proud to sponsor the 9th Annual Black Mountain Photo Contest. Black Mountain Conservancy, the original sponsor of the contest, merged with Desert Foothills Land Trust in 2009, and the Land Trust is pleased to continue this important community event. By capturing the beauty and majesty of Black Mountain, photo contest participants are helping Desert Foothills Land Trust inspire the protection of our fabulous desert landscape.
Holiday shoppers, you'll be able to get your own copy of the 2012 Black Mountain Photo Contest Calendar after December 7! Call our office at 480-488-6131 for more information. |

The Preserve at the Cave Hike
Hikers will visit this unique feature along Cave Creek - source of the name of the creek and town. The cave has supported human inhabitants for centuries, as evidenced by both pictographs and petroglyphs. We will also explore the important riparian habitat along Cave Creek. This property is privately owned and permanently protected by a conservation easement held by the Land Trust. It is not open to the public. This is an easy hike, but be prepared for wet shoes if we have had recent rains! (THIS HIKE IS FULL. You may still RSVP to be added to the wait list.)
Space is limited and registration is required for guided hikes. Please e-mail us at hikes@dflt.org or call 480-488-6131 at least one day before the hike to let us know how many people will be attending with your group. This allows us to share meeting location, directions, special instructions or cancelations with you. Additional hikes will be scheduled for late winter and spring. Keep an eye on our website at www.dflt.org/hikes.php
for the most recent hike schedule!
