Spanish 1

Our theme for this week is la casa, the house.  Students will learn a poem naming all the basic parts of a house (see below), draw the parts to construct a small model house, and talk about the story of "Los tres cochinitos" or "The Three Little Pigs."    
Vocabulary

la casa...house
las escaleras...stairs
la pared...wall
el piso...floor
la puerta...door
la ventana...window
el techo...roof
Target Words

arriba...up, over, above-El gato está arriba...The cat is above (upstairs).
abajo...below, down, under-Los hermanos están abajo...The brothers are below (downstairs).

Ask students to identify an object asking ¿Qué está arriba de la puerta? . . . . . What is above the door?                    
La bandera está arriba de la puerta.. . . . The flag Is above the door.
Dialogue

Use your own home to spark a conversation with your student:

Point to an object and ask ¿Qué  es esto?...What is this?

Es/son ___(la puerta)__...It is/they are __(the door)___.
