U.S. Congresswoman Louise Slaughter
Congresswoman Louise Slaughter has been a longtime supporter of high speed rail and is one of the most powerful and unique figures in the House of Representatives. She is the first woman to serve as Chairman of the influential House Committee on Rules, a position that allows her to influence nearly every single piece of legislation that comes to the House floor for a vote. She has held that position since 2007.

U.S. Congressman John Mica (Invited)
A long time supporter of high speed rail, Congressman John Mica is the Republican leader of the largest committee in Congress - Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Currently serving his ninth term representing Florida's 7th Congressional District, Mica helps oversee federal policy issues relating to all forms of transportation. As the Transportation Committee's top Republican, Mica was responsible for legislation in 2008 authorizing for the first time, private sector participation in the development of high-speed rail. He has strongly advocated for cutting red tape to expedite the lengthy federal transportation infrastructure project approval process, and called for the development of a comprehensive and national strategic transportation plan.

Norman Mineta, Former Secretary of Transportation
Secretary Mineta is vice chairman of Hill & Knowlton, the nation's oldest and largest PR firm. He is recognized for accomplishments in transportation, economic development, science and technology policy, foreign and domestic trade, the environment budgetary issues and civil rights. Secretary Mineta served in Congress for over twenty years and in the Cabinets of both Republican and Democratic presidents.

Ed Rendell is Governor of Pennsylvania and Co-Chair, Building America's Future. He has been called the "hardest working man in infrastructure", and is a huge supporter of a national high speed rail system for America. HSR Benefits - The Studies
The many benefits of high speed rail have been well known, but now there is real evidence in a number of recent studies:
1) The U.S. Conference of Mayors released a study of the great economic benefits to cities from high speed rail. The study looked at a diversity of cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Orlando, and Albany.
2) The London School of Economics released a study that showed substantial benefits to cities located along high speed rail lines in terms of increased market access, elevated economic activity, and increased GDP.
3) CALPIRG recently released a study that shows wide-ranging benefits that come with high speed rail including boosting the economy, saving energy, protecting the environment, encouraging compact land development, increased transit use, safety and reliability, and more.
4) University of California Irvine released a study showing the many benefits of high speed rail including jobs, air quality, health, sustainable communities, and more.
One conclusion that can be drawn from these studies is:
Cities that have high speed rail will be more competitive and better positioned to attract tourism, businesses, jobs, and high quality personnel.

USHSR Officials Visiting China
Thomas Hart - VP for Government Affairs, and Joseph Shelhorse - VP for Member Services have just arrived in China for a high level trade mission to meet with government officials and high speed rail industry leaders. Mr. Hart and Mr. Shelhorse will be touring HSR factories, rail construction sites, riding the new high speed trains, and discussing business prospects for America with Chinese officials.

Hosted by USHSR member NDF (New Defang Group), a China-based high speed rail construction firm, the tour will include visits to more than 20 companies in 18 cities. The companies include railcar manufacturers, construction firms, maintenance facilities, operations centers, parts manufacturers, and more.

Chinese banks will take place to discuss Chinese involvement in the US high speed rail project.
USHSR officials will also be visiting the new solar powered high speed rail station in Hongqiao where the world's largest solar collector system has been installed on the roof. The new 6.68 megawatt solar photovoltaic system recently opened and began generating enough electricity to power 12,000 homes. This huge solar system has been installed on the roof of the new Hongqiao high speed rail station - on the new Beijing-Shanghai high-speed line under construction.
