High speed rail is hot! and getting more publicity than ever... In addition to the recent Time magazine article written at our recent Orlando HSR conference, high speed rail has been featured in the Economist, CNN Money, Fortune, Forbes, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Bloomberg, Financial Post (Canada), Los Angeles Times, Bond Buyer, Philadelphia Inquirer, to name a few. USHSR has been featured in the majority of them!
The great benefits of HSR are out for the world to see. It's a proven technology in country after country around the globe for more than 45 years. HSR began in Japan in 1964, and has carried more than 9 billion passengers. The sum total of the many benefits of HSR far outweigh the cost. More below...
USHSR will be launching a national add campaign this September to promote the many benefits of HSR across the nation. Working with Hill & Knowlton the nation's oldest and largest public relations firm, the campaign will work to build widespread public, business, and political support for a major investment in the national HSR system. Be part of the campaign!
China has launched a new HSR industrial revolution! The scale of their rail project, the lightening fast construction speed, and the huge new HSR industry is unprecedented in the history of the world! See more below...
Check out our new members below. Membership in USHSR is growing rapidly as the HSR industry in America heats up. Join today to be part of this exciting new revolution in transportation!

HSR Benefits Everyone
The benefits are numerous and far reaching. According to the recent Time magazine article:
"You wouldn't have to get to the airport ridiculously early, take off your shoes, turn off your phone or pay extra for luggage; you wouldn't have to worry about the weather or some Icelandic volcano canceling your trip. You wouldn't have to watch the road, wait in traffic, find parking or pull over to stretch your legs; you wouldn't risk arrest or an accident by drinking or texting."
"The goal is to create attractive alternatives to long drives and short flights, which would relieve road and air congestion; reduce carbon emissions, highway deaths and dependence on oil from foreign thugs or the blackened Gulf; create jobs, jump start a new domestic manufacturing industry; and improve the competitiveness and convenience of the U.S. economy."
Philadelphia Inquirer adds more:
"In Europe, fast trains are transforming the continent, bringing cities and countries within a few hours of one another, erasing centuries-old regional divisions, resuscitating long-dormant towns, cutting air pollution, creating new economies and manufacturing jobs."
Millions of jobs created with HSR |
HSR even benefits those who aren't riding the train: Moving millions of people into trains relieves overcrowding on both our highways and runways and makes both of those systems function more effectively.
Additionally, HSR is the most far reaching solution to both climate change and energy security (and national security) by significantly lowering our enormous thirst for oil - currently at 20 million barrels per day (and growing) in America alone, 70% of which is consumed for transportation. Since HSR is electric, it can be powered by renewables in a safe, clean, and sustainable way for centuries. Read more |

National PR Launch
USHSR will be launching a national advertising campaign this September to promote the many benefits of HSR across the nation. Working with Hill & Knowlton, the focus of the campaign will be to get the word out and build widespread public, business, and political support for a major investment in the national HSR system.
The national campaign will center on the many benefits high speed rail delivers to everyone across industries and all sectors of society, including making our nation more competitive.

China's Massive HSR
A New Industrial Revolution
China has launched a new industrial revolution centered around high speed rail. The world's most ambitious HSR project is underway across China. In addition to this unprecedented new rail system, China has also launched an entirely new industry manufacturing trains, components, construction equipment, and providing design expertise and ready financing. China is well on its way to be a leading global exporter of HSR products and full systems.
China has also launched a new renewable energy industry mass producing solar energy products as well as wind turbines for use in their country and export. These technologies will power their trains and establish new industries for the country for export. As each of these systems are put into service, China's carbon footprint shrinks accordingly.
Together, their HSR and renewable energy industries are producing the products that will convert our planet to true sustainability, and create millions of jobs in the process. "When China goes big into something, they move the world!" said Thomas Hart of USHSR. Mr. Hart will be in China next month on a high level trade mission meeting with government officials and business leaders, touring the HSR factories, construction sites, and riding the new high speed trains.

HSR - Another $1.4B
The House of Representatives voted to approve H.R. 5850, the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year (FY) 2011. The vote was 251 in favor and 167 opposed.
USHSR and APTA supported the new legislation with a recent joint letter to the Appropriations Committee. The legislation includes $11.3 billion for public transportation investments, $500 million more than FY 2010, and $1.4 billion for high speed rail.
The Senate still needs to approve the appropriations bill. Last week, the Senate Appropriations Committee provided $10.8 billion for public transit.
Additional money for high speed rail is expected as part of the upcoming transportation reauthorization bill, including $50 billion for high speed rail. |

Oil-free transportation | National Defense & HSR
There's a new focus to national defense centered around the nation's oil dependency. Several top government statements made recently acknowledge the situation:
The U.S. Joint Forces Command, under U.S. Marine General J.N. Mattis, issued a report earlier this year stating that oil demand could outpace supply as early as 2015 with potentially devastating consequences for our economy, transportation system, and national security.
"Petroleum consumption is, of course, a growing national concern, not only as an economic drain, but also because increasing global competition for petroleum supplies raises national security concerns." Federal Railroad Administration, 2010
High speed rail is a major solution to this growing oil supply crisis, and many from the defense industry are working to help move the HSR industry forward. Most leading aerospace firms are looking at HSR as a serious focus for the future in addressing national defense in a number of ways, mainly cutting our oil dependency, and ways they can participate in this new project.
Our upcoming New York City HSR conference will feature a session on HSR and National Defense with industry leaders participating. "The U.S. defense industry has decades of experience planning big projects, and mobilizing resources, people and equipment. This is the kind of operation we need to mobilize to build our national HSR system quickly!" said USHSR President Andy Kunz this week.

USHSR - Ambassadors
for HSR in America
In an effort to foster global cooperation with the United States helping us build our national high speed rail network, leaders of the US High Speed Rail Association have been traveling the world and meeting with leaders from numerous countries. Most recently meetings were held with delegations from the UK, Canada, Spain, France, Japan, Korea, and China.
"We continue to reach out to leading international high speed rail groups to build a global coalition working towards high speed rail development here in America and other countries. This is a global project that requires global cooperation" said USHSR President Andy Kunz after meeting with Quebec's Delegate General John Parisella.
London | "The interest from around the world in the US high speed rail project is encouraging", said Thomas Hart, VP for Government Affairs at USHSR. "This is a great opportunity to work with these international organizations and companies to build our own HSR project more quickly utilizing their years of expertise and our work force" said Mr. Hart after meeting with groups from China and the UK. |
