Library News

Due to budget cuts at the NH State Library, our van delivery service has been cut by 40%.

While we sincerely regret the inconvenience, please expect that your requests may now take longer to fill. If you need something quickly, you may still use your Wadleigh Library card at any other library in the GMILCS consortium. For more information and a list of other GMILCS libraries, see www.gmilcs.org/services.asp. To voice your concerns over recent and possible future cuts to the van service, we have bookmarks available at the front desk listing contact information for our legislators.

Library eBooks are Now Available for Kindle

Kindle on OverdriveKindle users can browse the New Hampshire Dowloadable Books collection of bestselling and classic eBooks from a PC or Mac computer, check out titles using a library card, and select "Get for Kindle" to deliver eBooks to their Kindle device or any device running the free Kindle app. Users who enjoy eBooks on Kindle will benefit from Amazon's Whispersync technology that synchronizes notes, highlights and last page read between their Kindle and free Kindle apps.

Important Caveat
Amazon does keep information about your borrowing habits if you use Kindle format ebooks.

However, you do not need to use your existing retail Amazon account. You can create an anonymous account for your library checkouts if you do not want your OverDrive/ Kindle eBooks to be tracked by name. The Wadleigh Memorial Library does not endorse any particular business and is not responsible for the fact that Amazon offers ebooks for sale when you borrow free titles from the NH Downloadable Books site.

PAWS to Read

Saturday, November 12th at 10:30 a.m.
Children's Room

dog reading

Read to a DOG? Not just any dog....

Certified Therapy Pets are a wonderful way to encourage reluctant readers and children having difficulties with reading to become more confident in their ability to read. The use of Therapy Pets in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes has been shown to decrease anxiety, lower blood pressure and promote relaxation; the same premise applies to children with reading difficulties.

For those children who cannot yet read on their own, parents & caregivers are invited to read with their children. In order to guarantee your spot, you must register for each session.

Registered children should arrive during the advertised time span and will read to the dog of their choice for approximately 15-20 minutes.

Check our online calendar at www.wadleighlibrary.org for upcoming dates & times.

Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude.  ~E.P. Powell

I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.  ~G.K. Chesterton
