We lead off the series with A Stranger in the Kingdom by Howard Frank Mosher. This is his first novel dealing with characters from the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. The inhabitants of a sleepy New England town are forced to confront their racist attitudes when a black minister from Canada is accused of the brutal murder of a local teenage girl.
Call the library to reserve your copy of the book or pick one up at the circulation desk. All are welcome.

June is here, and with it comes the start of summer reading! This summer's reading program theme celebrates travel and culture with One World, Many Stories for children and You Are Here for teens. But you don't need to go anywhere to travel this summer - just open a good book! Some of my favorite travel-themed books are The Beach by Alex Garland, On the Road by Jack Kerouac, Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, and Anywhere But Here by Mona Simpson. What are yours? Share your picks on our Facebook page!

Summer Reading 2011
Summer is right around the corner, and you will want to make sure that your child has the best ticket in town for summer fun - a WADLEIGH MEMORIAL LIBRARY CARD. Cards are FREE for every Milford resident 5 years and older. With their library card your young reader can explore countries and cultures from around the globe with this year's summer reading program, "One World, Many Stories." In addition to tracking reading progress, children can enjoy magic and music, bubbleology and bingo, lizards and LEGO, raptors and reptiles, fishing fun and so much more. All programs are FREE to Milford library card holders who are registered for the summer reading program.
SUMMER READING REGISTRATION is quick and easy. Students in grades K - 4 at the Jacques and Heron Pond Elementary Schools will receive a summer reading packet, including a registration form, from their classroom teacher. Summer reading packets will be available at the library for all other Milford library card holders in grades K - 4, beginning Tuesday, May 31. Beginning June 9th, all registered readers can stop by the library and pick up a FREE book of their choice to get their summer reading started.
Remember the Wadleigh Memorial Library summer reading program is a fun way to incorporate reading and related activities into summer family time, and a great way to keep your child reading. It also helps children maintain and improve reading skills. The library has something to offer every reader at every level, and best of all, everything is FREE. Make sure that your family takes advantage of all that the library has to offer this summer.

Donations Needed! The Children's Room is still looking for donations of small Lego pieces (we have more than enough DUPLO) to support our family Lego programs. In particular, children are always looking for more Lego people to add to their creations. |
