Motorcycling from 

New Hampshire to South America

In October 2009, Ben Slavin left his home in Hooksett, NH in search of adventure.  Over the course of 6 months, he rode his motorcycle 23,000 miles through 15 countries until he reached the southernmost city in the world - Ushuaia, Argentina.

If you are an aspiring gardener with not so much space to garden, an experienced gardener with acres to contemplate or anything between, this series of workshops can help you get started on your garden.  Although we will focus on growing in small spaces, you will be able to apply the concepts to any garden space.

 

This session: Putting it all together & growing throughout the season

Now that you done all the planning and preparation, spring is here, and you are ready to plant!  This session will include tips on planting, fertilizing, pest management and maintenance of your containers and gardens.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED and limited to 15. Registration begins May 1.

Teen Volunteer Club
May 4th & 25th | 2:30 - 4:30 PM 

 

A drop-in teen volunteer group will be meeting the first and third Wednesday every month at the library for 2 hours to help with various activities. Volunteer tasks may include:

 

· Cleaning children's books

· Dusting / cleaning shelves

· Shelf reading / inventory

· Moving books

· Preparation for library programs

· Gardening or outdoor work

· Organizing the book sale room

 

If you need to complete community service hours, this is a perfect opportunity! You are not required to come every week.  Please bring any paperwork you need signed for credit for your community service hours.  Recommendations for college or work are possible for teens who volunteer on a regular basis.

 

Teen Volunteer Service will be directly supervised by the teen librarian.  You must be age 14 and older to participate, in accordance with  US Department of Labor Child Labor Bulletin 101 WH-1330.

 

  Teen Writing Club

We will free-write for the first half hour or so, then read aloud (you can bring in anything you've been working on at home for this part). If you're stuck in your writing, I will have some fun writing exercises for you!

Hang out and discuss your favorite anime or manga series and participate in related games and activities.

The Children's Room is still looking for donations of small Lego pieces (we have more than enough DUPLO) to support our family Lego programs.  In particular, children are always looking for more Lego people to add to their creations.

PAWS To Read

Saturday, May 14th

Ali, Koda, Molly, Lily & Weezie are area Therapy Dogs who with their owners, are volunteering their time to help children become better readers. Readers can arrive any time between 10:30 and 11:30am to read to the dog of their choice for approximately 20 minutes. No specific time slots are needed but those who sign up will be guaranteed time to read for this month's session. You will need to sign up for each month's session. Please note that not all dogs will be available each month.
