Programs & News

for February 2011!


 
What a winter we have had this year, especially January! Snow, Snow and more Snow!!  Once we are done with all the shoveling it does feel good to sit down with a  good book, watch a movie or listen to some good music, that you borrowed from the Wadleigh Library!  You deserve it! 

 

Let's look forward to February, the days are getting longer and the sun is higher. Did you also know February is full of all kinds of events such as: Groundhog day (2nd), the Chinese New Year (3rd), Superbowl XLIV (6th), Abraham Lincoln's Birthday (12th), Valentines Day (14th), Random Acts of Kindness Day (17th), John Glenn Orbited the Earth (20th), Love your Pet Day (21st), George Washington's Birthday (22nd), and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's Birthday (27th). 

We also have great programming going on at the library this month.  The Acoustic Cafe will feature the Gloucester Hornpipe & Clog Society and our furry, cuddly, 4 legged friends will be back for Paws to Read.  


Teen programs include monthly favorites such as the Animanga Club, "Chicks with Sticks" and "Pizza & Pages" book clubs and Wii Wednesday.  This month there is a special Book Crush Party, where you can share your favorite literary crush!!


There will be a special program on "Learn about Lyme" discussing all aspects of Lyme disease. 


Children's Story Times continue in February, along with a patron favorite the Family Block Party with legos. Miss Krishna returns this month with Music and More to keep everyone dancing.  We will be making Valentines Day Cards on February 11th, stop by and make one for someone special.

 

AARP Tax Assistance begins this month, check below for details on dates and times, no appointments required first come first served.  The Wadleigh Library is an official IRS Tax Form repository, so stop by and pick up your forms and instructions.

If the weather is bad and the Wadleigh Library has to close we will post notices on the doors of the library. 

 

Next we contact WMUR-TV, Channel 9 in Manchester, NH.  They post our closing online with other libraries and organizations. Unfortunately it will not appear on the TV crawler acrosssnowflake ice crystal the  bottom of the TV screen, that is reserved just for school closings. 

 

We will post a status on our Facebook page indicating we are closed.

Free Tax help will be available at the Wadleigh Library from February 1st to April 14th.  The hours will be the same each week:

Thursdays - 4:00pm-6:30pm

 

Appointments are not made, just stop by the library.  First come, first served.

 

As always the Wadleigh Library is an official Tax Form Repository.  We will provide forms as soon as we receive them from the government.

The Gloucester Hornpipe & Clog Society has delighted audiences since 1971 with a lively mix of Celtic jigs and reels, American Colonial-era tunes, sing-along sea chanteys, & original songs from New England's rich history. For more information about the musicians, see www.hornpipe.com .

 

The Acoustic Café series is generously sponsored by the Friends & Trustees of the Wadleigh Memorial Library. All events are free & open to the public. Doors open @ 7pm. Coffee & light refreshments available. All donations directly support the Acoustic Cafe Series.

 Learn about Lyme

This program features Dr. Julia Greenspan of Hollis, NH. Dr. Greenspan is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor and founder of Greenhouse Naturopathic Medicine.

 

Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi) is a complicated constellation of symptoms which does not get the respect it deserves. Dr. Greenspan will discuss how Lyme disease is contracted and how early intervention can improve the outcome. Learn what to do if you suspect that you have been infected. Children of any age who are able to read are invited to sign up to practice their reading skills with a Certified Therapy Dog.

 

Ali, Koda, Molly, Lily & Weezie are area Therapy Dogs who with their owners, are volunteering their time to help children become better readers. Readers can arrive any time between 10:30 and 11:30am to read to the dog of their choice for approximately 20 minutes. No specific time slots are needed but those who sign up will be guaranteed time to read for this month's session. You will need to sign up for each month's session. Please note that not all dogs will be available each month.
