October Programs & News!
This month we are excited to resume our 11th year of the Acoustic Cafe. Our first musician, David LaFleur will not only be our first act of the season, but will also be here early in the day to provide a program on songwriting. Appropriate for the season, we will have An Evening with the "Ghost Lady" ; author Marianne O'Connor will come and talk about her book Haunted Hikes of New Hampshire.
This month's Spotlight on Technology features "Learning Express Library" a great tool used for practicing standardized tests of all kinds. Whether you are a student who wants to practice for your SAT, someone who is recently unemployed and needs resume assistance or changing your career and practicing for your nursing exam, LearningExpress Library will meet your needs. Take a look!
Finally, stop by our booth at the 2010 Southern New Hampshire Expo to be held at The Dome at Hampshire Hills on October 21, 2010. This will be our fourth year attending.

 Spotlight on Technology
"LearningExpress Library" Need to practice for your SAT's or driver's education test? What about a nursing exam, commercial drivers license, GRE or maybe you just need to practice math for high school. Where can you find current standardized tests, that will be graded, and analyze your results?
LearningExpress Library an online database offered at the Wadleigh Library.

LearningExpress provides a very comprehensive, interactive, online learning platform of practice tests and tutorial course series. The program is designed to help you succeed on academic or licensing tests such as the SAT, GED, GRE. Commercial Driver's License Exam, U.S. Citizenship. You'll get immediate scoring, answer explanations, and an individualized analysis of your results. In the Jobs and Careers learning center there is assistance with resume & cover letter composition.
In order to use Learning Express Library, you need to create a user account. Creating your account or "my center" provides you with instant online scoring, records customized analyses of your strengths & weaknesses, and makes recommendations.
LearningExpress Library can be easily accessed from the library or the comfort of your own home or business. Just log into the Wadleigh Library website, click on databases and look for the LearningExpress Library Icon.
When accessing the database from outside the library you will be prompted for your library card bar code and pin number. If you have any questions on the use of this database or how to access it, as always please give us a call, 673-2408 or drop us an email we'd be happy to assist.
Each month we spotlight one of the many electronic resources available in the Wadleigh Library. Many patrons don't realize we provide numerous resources that are not in book format. We hope you find this information helpful and as always we are here to assist you with these resources. |

The Wadleigh Memorial Library will be attending the Southern NH Expo for our fourth year. Please stop by our booth, we will have a raffle and this year will be able to register new patrons at the show.
There will be over 200 booths this year, all representing great businesses in the area. It is a great way to meet some new business contacts, catch up with business acquaintances and check out some great food from local restaurants.

 An Evening with the "Ghost Lady"
Thursday, October 7th @ 7pm
Local author Marianne O'Connor has created a new hiking book with a frightening twist. In Haunted Hikes of New Hampshire O'Connor shares more than trail mix with her readers as she recounts the ghost stories, legends and lore associated with some of New Hampshire's premier hiking trails. Haunted hike locations are scattered throughout the state and feature stories of such legends as Devil's Den in New Durham, Chief Chocorua in Tamworth, Sasquatch of Ossipee, the Bomber Plane in Woodstock, and a murder mystery involving Bette David in Franconia.
Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Song Writing Workshop with
Acoustic Cafe's David LaFleur

Have you always wanted to learn the art of song writing?
Learn the basic technical, artistic and psychological aspects of modern songwriting from David LaFleur, tonight's featured performer @ the Acoustic Cafe Series. LaFleur has been performing his unique mixture of folk, Appalachian, blues, & bluegrass for over 20 years; he's opened for Emmy Lou Harris and Tom Rush and his original music has been featured on TV and radio across the country.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own songs or poetry to the workshop for constructive and encouraging review. This workshop is free but limited to only 15 participants.

The Acoustic Café series is generously sponsored by the Friends & Trustees of the Wadleigh Memorial Library. All events are free & open to the public. Doors open @ 7pm. Coffee & light refreshments available. All donations directly support the Acoustic Cafe Series.

Sign up with your band to compete for the title! Bands may consist of 1-3 people (singer, guitarist, drummer)* and must have a rocking name! Unsigned musicians are welcome to come and join in any band looking for more members.
*Your band may have 4 members (2 guitarists) if you bring an extra controller. We are using Wii Band Hero, which is compatible with the guitar controllers for the Wii Guitar Hero games. |

PAWS To Read - Returns!
Saturday, October 16th
@ 10:30am
Children of any age who are able to read are invited to sign up to practice their reading skills with a Certified Therapy Dog. Ali, Koda, Lilly, Molly, Sarah & Weezie are area Therapy Dogs who with their owners, are volunteering their time to help children become better readers.
Readers can arrive any time between 10:30 and 11:30am to read to the dog of their choice for approximately 20 minutes. No specific time slots are needed but those who sign up will be guaranteed time to read for this month's session. You will need to sign up for each month's session. Please note that not all dogs will be available each month.
