2010

Welcome to the Wadleigh Memorial Library monthly newsletter.  This is our first newsletter of 2010; a new year & new decade.

Looking back on 2009 we saw some substantial physical changes made to the library such as  providing new comfortable reading chairs, a new reference desk with more room for patrons to work with our reference librarians and a new adult computer area.

In 2010 we look forward to the results of proposals from young NH architects on building renovation/addition suggestions for future Wadleigh Library expansion. Check out the details of this exciting contest in our NEWS section below.

As always, all the changes made in the Wadleigh Library are done to benefit our patron's and the Milford Community!

Take a look at all the great programs we have running in January and be sure to mark your calendars.

Wadleigh Library - Architectural Contest

AIANH

A few months back, the Wadleigh Library's building renovation/addition project was selected for the 2009 American Institute of Architects, NH Chapter, Young Architects Design Competition.  The contest resulted in 5 submissions and while a winner has been chosen, it won't be announced until an awards banquet to be held on Friday, January 15th.

The entries are currently on display at the NHAIA gallery in Manchester for the next few weeks.  Contest information can be found on their website. Once on the site, click on the top right tab, "Entries", to see the submissions.

In our February newsletter we will announce the winner of the competition.  Stayed Tuned!

  chinese cinderella
A riveting memoir of a girl's painful coming-of-age in a wealthy Chinese family during the 1940s. Adeline's affluent, powerful family considers her bad luck after her mother dies giving birth to her. Life does not get any easier when her father remarries. She and her siblings are subjected to the disdain of her stepmother, while her stepbrother and stepsister are spoiled. Although Adeline wins prizes at school, they are not enough to compensate for what she really yearns for - the love and understanding of her family.

Bring your current knitting project and join us for snacks and discussion. Beginning knitters and new members welcome! Copies are available on the teen display.

Quote of the Month:

"We will open the book.  Its pages are blank.  We are going to put words on them ourselves.  The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day."
