Nights are cooling down but activity at RVCC is heating up. Read on for info about the Autumn schedule of "happenings" at the Center.
We're celebrating our 10th anniversary!

The Rockfish Valley Community Center had its beginnings like all community endeavors - with a group of involved citizens who rallied around a cause, a possibility, a dream - and worked hard to make it happen! To read the full history of our last 10 years, visit our website history page here.

We're inviting all of our neighbors and the community-at-large to an open house to see how this old school building has blossomed. And later, we'll dance the night away with a birthday dance!

  • The open house is free to all, from 6-8 PM.
  • Claudia's Cafe will be open from 6-9 offering dinner, ala carte.
  • Hamner Theater Bar & WiFi Cafe open from 5pm.  Performance Imaginary Letters: Mozart Remembered from at 7:30-9; $10 tickets include admission to Buzzard Hollow Boys Dance Party afterward!
  • The stage will offer an open mic from 6-7:30 ... email Wren Shoumate (or call her at 434-326-6991) if you're interested in participating.
  • Cake walks will happen in the 7:30-8 time.
  • Beer and wine cash bars will be open in the theater and in the RVCC conference room all evening.
  • Raffle. Door prizes. On-site group art projects.
  • AND THEN ... from 8-10 we invite all for a big community dance featuring the always fun and engaging Buzzard Hollow Boys. Their music just makes your feet need to move. (Get a preview at the September 4 Farmers' Market in Nellysford!)
$10 cover for the dance. Children under 12 free.

You can download a printable card to post on your fridge  here ... so you don't forget this community celebration.

MozartLast seen on the mountain as a commissioned work for the Wintergreen Performing Arts festival, "Imaginary Letters: Mozart Remembered," comes to the Hamner Theater in October for six performances only!
This adaptation for the stage by Peter Coy, of a book by Michael Whitefeatures Jen Hoffman, Jim Johnston, Joel Jones and Boomie Pedersen. As the title suggests, Mozart is brought to life through the remembrances of his family and friends in letters that a fictitious historian has collected. All letters are based on fact; only the historian is truly imaginary. Michael White is a conductor and Professor of Graduate Studies in Literature and Materials of Music at the Juilliard School; he counts Three Ford Foundation Fellowships and a Guggenheim Fellowship among his many honors and awards.

Cooking PancakesThe much-loved and well-attended monthly pancake breakfast at RVCC
is in need of some volunteers. A morning in the RVCC kitchen on the first Saturday of the month is a highly recommended way to support the community center ... and have fun!

This monthly program helps to fund general operation and program costs at RVCC.

So if you are a regular participant of the breakfasts,
consider being an occasional volunteer.
