Harp Concert with RVCC Seniors
Virginia SchweningerA holiday harp concert by "Harp Song of the Blue Ridge" Harp Ensemble is an annual event conducted for the entertainment of Nelson County seniors, and is open to the public without regards to age. Although there is no admission charge, donations are welcome. This year's concert will be on Thursday, December 10, from 12:45 to 1:45 pm, in the RVCC Auditorium.

Founder and Director, widely acclaimed harpist, Virginia Schweninger, leads an ensemble of seven harpists, all of whom are her students. A special guest artist, Nancy Van Zant of Lynchburg, will be performing on the Hand Bells, adding her magical touch to the song of the harps!

On August 29, 2009, Virginia's "Somewhere in Time" album was recognized as one of the top solo instrumental CDs of the year by Just Plain Folks, a group based in Nashville TN that bills itself as "the world's largest grassroots music organization."

For more information about the ensemble visit the RVCC website here.

Hamner Happenings

Hamner TheaterCome celebrate the holiday season with The Homecoming, the classic Nelson County Christmas story based on the novela by Earl Hamner, Jr., in an adaptation by Peter Coy.

The Homecoming is a tale of hope and love on a cold winter's night, set during the Great Depression, "...a night of miracles, of great changes...." Come set with us awhile and watch as a young man sets out to find his Daddy and finds himself as well.

The production opened Thursday, November 19, and runs through Sunday, December 13 with shows Thursdays through Sundays. There are performances Thanksgiving weekend on Saturday and Sunday only. Performance times are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2 pm.

Call 434-361-1999 for reservations and visit the website for cast information. (There are 21 parts in the play and 32 actors involved in this production!). Tickets are $10, $5 for children 12 and under. Senior citizens may pay what they can.

And call soon ... performances are selling out!

But that's not all that's happening at the Hamner:
  • HIT (Hamner Improv Theater) will resume Monday, Nov. 30, after Thanksgiving. Drop-in session begins at 6 pm. Please call 434.361.1999 for details.
  • Mark your calendars for the Third Annual Geezers New Year Party. Turn the clock back and bring in the new year on Hamner time (early!) --- Potluck, Improv, Dancing, Games --- Thursday, December 31.
For more info, visit the Hamner website here.

Cooking Pancakes
Like to flip pancakes?

The much-loved and well-attended
monthly pancake breakfast at RVCC
is in need of some volunteers. A morning in the RVCC kitchen on the first Saturday of the month is a highly recommended way to support the community center ... and have fun!
This monthly program helps to fund general operation and program costs at RVCC.

So if you are a regular participant of the breakfasts,
consider being an occasional volunteer.
Call Bo Holland,434.361.0100 or to sign-up.

And thanks!
