Mental Health America of SC will host its 58th Annual Meeting at 10:00 am on Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Bridges Clubhouse on 2105 Commerce Dr, Cayce, SC 29033. All members, Affiliate members and Board members are invited to attend. MHASC will present its 2012 Annual Awards and showcase the work of our local Affiliates located in 23 counties across South Carolina.
 
 Please read the award descriptions below and submit nominations for the awards to Joy Jay at Mental Health America of SC in writing by April  9, 2012. 
 
After the Awards Ceremony, we will enjoy a catered lunch provided by    CF Evans Construction
and then celebrate the Grand Opening Ceremony of Williams Place, MHASC's newest apartments' built for those suffering from mental illness. 

Join us on May 18, 2012, for this exciting day to celebrate our affiliates, volunteers and staff and the development of our housing program! 

MHASC 58th Annual Meeting Awards Categories
 
Affiliate of the Year (Staffed)
 
Affiliate of the Year (Unstaffed)
 
The Distinguished Service Award- This award is selected on the basis of a written nomination from an Affiliate, Board Member or a MHASC member. The nomination should include a description of contributions made over a period of years and that has been felt state-wide.
 
Volunteer of the Year- This award is based on outstanding service by an individual in either a local or state-wide setting. This nomination should be made in writing by Affiliates or MHA volunteers. This is a one-time presentation and will not be granted to the same individual again. 
 
Media Awards- "Newspaper Award" is substantiated with clippings, pictures, editorials, feature stories or coverage of MHA activities. Please include any information about any individuals on the newspaper staff who have contributed to the coverage.
"Radio and TV" stations are awarded for outstanding contributions in mental health coverage. Areas include locally produced special programs, locally produced series of programs, news coverage or spot announcements. Sample tapes, films or scripts may be submitted.
 
The Carol Garvin Award- This award was created to honor Carol Garvin who was an outstanding advocate for many years. Carol served as president of MHASC, as a member of the South Carolina Mental Health Commission and as president of creative/unique use of volunteers and community resources in a program funded and operated by then SC Department of Mental Health. This award nomination should demonstrate this individual's commitment to the involvement of volunteers in a program that skillfully utilizes their talents and resources.
 
The Chair's Award- This award is given in recognition of special persons or affiliates who have made a difference in this state by promoting programs to reduce stigma, educate, and advocate on behalf of all those who have mental illness in South Carolina.
