Mental Health America of South Carolina and Columbia Children's Theatre are partnering to use the arts to encourage
Mental Health America and the Columbia Children's Theatre announce the opening of the children's musical Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
with Special Guest IC HOPE!!!!!
Special Performances of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day will be held on September 16, 17, and 18 and September 23, 24, and 25.
"Mental Health Night at Columbia Children's Theatre" will feature 100 free admissions for MHASC friends and an after-show party with IC HOPE and the cast of the play.

Mental Health advocates are invited to participate in the Mental Health Resource Fair and attend the show for free.
During the week of September 19- 23,elementary school children from neighboring school districts,children from day care centers, home school programs and other educational venues will be brought to the theatre each morning to enjoy the show and learn from a discussion with IC HOPE about good mental health.

Out of the Darkness Walks for Suicide Prevention Planned for Fall 2011
The Out of the Darkness Community Walks are 3 to 5 mile walks taking place in over 300 communities across the country this fall.
By walking in the Out of the Darkness Community Walks to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), you will be walking with thousands of people nationwide to raise money for AFSP's vital research and education programs to prevent suicide and save lives, increase national awareness about depression and suicide, advocate for mental health issues, and assist survivors of suicide loss.

Speakers Include:
James F. Paulson, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Old Dominion University. He is the author of over 30 publications on prenatal and postpartum depression in fathers.
Stephanie Berg, MD is the Medical Director of The Women's Emotional Health Center at Midlands Psychiatry in Columbia, SC and a psychiatrist at Palmetto Health Behavioral Day Program. She has a particular interest in mood disorders in pregnancy and the postpartum, premenstual mood disorders and perimenopausal mood disorders.
Dr. Judy McKay is a Child and Adolescent psychiatrist specializing in treating children ages 4 - 18 at the Pisgah Institute in Asheville, NC. Before moving to Asheville she ran a "Peripartum Mood Disorder Clinic" in the Department of Neuropsychiatry at the University of South Carolina.
The cost is $45.00 if received by September 1, 2011 and $55.00 after. Registration must be received by September 30, 2011. A boxed lunch is included with the registration fee.

Mental Health Art exhibit to be held at Anderson Arts Center
On July 29, 2011 through September 2, 2011 a mental health art exhibit will be held at the Anderson Arts Center at 110 Federal Street, Anderson, SC. There will be approximately 120 pieces of art in the exhibit.
The project is a unique collaboration of South Carolina Department of Mental Health Centers and other mental health service organizations.
The exhibit will include artwork from the Anderson-Oconee-Pickens Community Mental Health Center, Beckman Center for Mental Health Services, Greenville Mental Health Center, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric, the Art of Recovery, Mental Health America, and the AnMed Health Cancer Center Infusion Center.
