Mental Health America of SC hosts reception at 701 Center for Contemporary Art to celebrate Michael Nye exhibit
"Fine Line: Mental Health/Mental Illness"
The 701 Center for Contemporary Art and the South Carolina Hospital Association along with the Nelson Mullins law firm have brought the exhibit "Fine Line: Mental Health/Mental Illness" by artist Michael Nye to Columbia from March 11 through April 25, 2010. The exhibit is a collection of photographs with an audio narrative read by the subject of the each photograph describing their experience with mental illness. The artist writes, "Anyone who has been to these deep places knows something important and valuable. I thank all the individuals in this exhibition for their courage and for being our teachers, for enlarging and illuminating our lives."
Friends of Mental Health America of SC were invited to view the exhibit on March 23rd from 7:30 pm to 9pm. At the conclusion of the program several clients of MHASC's Bridges Clubhouse read aloud their own poetry to the audience and IC HOPE even made an appearance. It was a night of education and celebration.
