Greetings!
October is a busy month for mental health advocates and volunteers! October 4th-10th is Mental Illness Awareness Week. Let's all do our part and spread the word that mental illness is real. But, let's celebrate that recovery is possible. Don't forget to take an on-line mental health screening for National Depression Screening Day and participate in the local "Out of Darkness" walk in your community. You'll find links for both in this newsletter. Thanks for being a part of the mental health movement in South Carolina.

Out of Darkness Walks 2009
Join Mental Health America of South Carolina as we walk to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. We will be walking with thousands of people nationwide to raise funds for AFSP's research, prevention programs and survivor support. It's a great way to honor a loved one you have lost to suicide or to raise awareness that in South Carolina more than 500 people die by suicide every year, leaving 3,000 loved ones behind.
