Image: "Are There Any More at Home Like You?" Long Beach, circa 1900 (Postcard Collection)
Humorous vacation postcards were popular as early at the 1880s. The title of this souvenir postcard was inspired from a hit musical, Floradora, which swept through the country's theaters in the early 1900s.

Pacific Electric Railway: Then & NowWillis Stork Gallery Wed - Sun, Noon to 5:00 pm; Open through January 13, 2013
The Pacific Electric Railway and its 1,100 miles of track connecting Southern California's communities ceased operation by the 1960s. It has become more relevant in recent times due to the MTA's installation of the light rail in many of our communities. Many of the modern MTA lines follow what were once Pacific Electric routes. This exhibition, co-curated by Michael Patris and Steve Crise, showcases rare images from our past and compares them with what can be seen in the same locations today. The exhibition also features railway objects and ephemera, including an original advertising painting from the Pacific Electric Railway that is being publicly displayed for the first time in generations. Three new paintings by renowned artist Harlan Hiney, who uses historic images to create new works of art, are also on display.

Members-Only At Home Series Event: A Gathering of Radical Utopians Tuesday, September 11, 6:30 pm at a private residence in Altadena
Local historian/writer Michele Zack will discuss some of the utopian visions in our area's past, including Pasadena's founding and original town plan. Ms. Zack will focus mainly on Kate Crane Gartz's Altadena Salon, from the Progressive Era through the Depression, as a vortex where people from surrounding towns gathered to sort out the world's problems. The program will take place at Gillette's Hunting Lodge (1890), one of the oldest homes in the San Gabriel Foothills.
Doo Dah on the Green Sunday, September 23, 4:00 to 7:00 pm
We invite you to bring your own chairs and blankets, and picnic on the spacious lawns of the Fenyes Mansion for a Doo Dah concert featuring Snotty Scotty and the Hankies and other Doo Dah Parade favorites. Snotty Scotty has been one of Pasadena's most enduring and beloved bands over the last forty years and has participated in every Doo Dah Parade since its inception in 1978. In fact, many years ago they were dubbed the "Official Band of the Doo Dah Parade."
Tickets: Free.
Also don't forget about our monthly children's story time event, Sunny Tales from Around the World (9/12).
