This recent donation is one of the few artifacts in the Museum's collection from the Lake Vineyard. Don Benito (Benjamin Davis) Wilson bought the Lake Vineyard property in 1852 from the widow of Hugo Reid. In addition to his ranch, Wilson worked hard to improve the growing area. Wilson School, Wilson Avenue, Wilson Lake, Wilson Canyon, and Mount Wilson were all named after Don Benito. Much more than a "gentleman farmer," he also served as a Los Angeles Mayor, Los Angeles County Supervisor, and California State Senator.

Current Exhibition
Family Stories: Sharing a Community's Legacy
Now through January 10, 2010
Wed - Sun, Noon to 5:00 pm
Family
Stories: Sharing a Community's Legacy features the stories of the Duncan, Gertmenian, Lowe,
Stevenson, Kawai, and Mejia families, which helps the Museum shed light on
the experiences of our African-American, Armenian-American, Chinese-American,
Euro-American, Japanese-American, and Latino communities, respectively.
The multi-generational experiences of the six featured families are
shared and interpreted through photographs, documents, artifacts, and
recordings.
The
exhibition, and related programs, places an individual family's story into
a larger local, regional, and national context, and seeks to inspire
visitors to reflect on their own family's history and how their own lives and
experiences are contributing to the ongoing creation of history and community.

An Evening at Pashgian Brothers
Thursday, October 15, 6:00 to 8:00 pm
Beautiful handmade oriental carpets have graced the homes of Pasadena
residents for more than one hundred years. Many of the early local
dealers were Armenian immigrants who brought to America the trading
skills they had developed in ancient Armenia, situated at the
crossroads of the Ottoman, Russian, and Persian Empires. By 1904
brothers John and Moses Pashgian had established the first rug business
in Pasadena. Join fellow textile lovers in their showroom for a
discussion and showing of antique and modern oriental rugs. The
showroom is located at 993 East Colorado Boulevard, 91106 (east of Lake
Avenue).
Tickets:
Textile Arts Council Members $10; Museum Members $15; Non-Members $20.
Reservations suggested, 626.577.1660, ext. 10. To purchase tickets
