(Image: Wine list from the Eldorado Inn, circa 1969 - Ephemera Collection - Businesses)
The Eldorado Inn was located on the rim of Eaton Canyon
from 1956 until January 1969. During the
second-worst rainfall of the century, the restaurant collapsed under flood
waters and was washed away. This
recently donated wine list was recovered from the ruins of the restaurant and
still bears a residue of mud. According
to urban legend, the safe of the restaurant, filled with money, is still buried
in the mud of Eaton
Canyon.

Current Exhibition
Family Stories: Sharing a Community's Legacy
Now through January 10, 2010
Wed - Sun, Noon to 5:00 pm
Family
Stories: Sharing a Community's Legacy features the stories of the Duncan, Gertmenian, Lowe,
Stevenson, Kawai, and Mejia families, which helps the Museum shed light on
the experiences of our African-American, Armenian-American, Chinese-American,
Euro-American, Japanese-American, and Latino communities, respectively.
The multi-generational experiences of the six featured families are
shared and interpreted through photographs, documents, artifacts, and
recordings.
The
exhibition, and related programs, places an individual family's story into
a larger local, regional, and national context, and seeks to inspire
visitors to reflect on their own family's history and how their own lives and
experiences are contributing to the ongoing creation of history and community.
