Vietnamese Religious Freedom Advocate Remains Under House Arrest - AI Friend in Mongolia to Offer Assistance thru Diplomacy
Dear Friends,
One of Advocates' friends and colleagues since the Global Convocation in 2000, Nguyen Van Dai, a Christian lawyer in Vietnam, was arrested and sentenced to prison back in 2007 for "conducting propaganda against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" and sentenced to five years imprisonment for his activism and education efforts. In reality, Dai was simply representing people's whose religious rights were under attack and he still remains under house arrest. In addition to his prison sentence (later reduced by one year), Dai's law license was suspended. From August 30-September 2, the Vietnamese Minister of Justice will be visiting the Mongolian Parliament with a delegation of other officials. One of those who will be in the welcoming committee for the meetings, and now serving on the Human Rights and Justice Committee on the Mongolian Parliament, is the newly elected Baasankhuu Octyabri. Baasankhuu plans to bring up the situation of his friend, Dai, during those meetings.
As Sam Ericsson might have said, this could very well be one of those divine appointments that God pre-ordained. How else to explain how Advocates' immediate past director of the Rule of Law Institute in Mongolia might now have the opportunity to address the situation of his friend, Dai, with the Minister of Justice of Vietnam.
Please pray for Baasankhuu to have wisdom and grace in broaching this subject during his meetings with the Vietnamese delegation. Please continue to pray for Dai and his family as he remains under house arrest.
Thank you so much for your continued prayers and financial support for the work of Advocates. May the Lord bless you with His perfect . . . Grace and peace,
Brent McBurney President & CEO Advocates International

Thank You for Your Financial Support

AI is not a recipient of government funding and is solely dependent upon the financial contributions of those who believe in its mission, thereby enabling it to serve "clients" ranging from heads of state seeking to implement constitutional reforms to persecuted and imprisoned believers sentenced to death for their faith. We are most grateful and thank you for whatever financial support or voluntary service you can provide in support of AI's mission. Here's how you can help: (more)
