Report from Advocates Albania
 | Skanderbeg Square, Tirana |
Thank you for your continued prayers for the work of Advocates International in Albania. Earlier this month, AI board member Roger Sherrard and President, Brent McBurney, traveled to Tirana, Albania. Brent made his first visit to Albania, while Roger, on his 45th visit to this beautiful country, was a keynote speaker at the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Albanian Constitutional Court.
In his remarks to the Court, Roger discussed the importance of a separation of powers, morality and religion, the historical importance of the Judeo-Christian foundation of the United States and how crucial that thinking is to the independence of the judiciary in the USA. Roger shared the observations of two key 19th Century European thinkers, Alexis Tocqueville (France) and Francis Grund (Germany). Grund commented that religious devotion and high respect for morality were essential to the success in America. Tocqueville noted that religion, while playing no direct role in government is indispensible to the maintenance of republican institutions. Roger also reminded his hosts that their own Albanian moral values, found in the Code of Lek Dukagjin, are a crucial part of their efforts to maintain an independent judiciary.
Roger's remarks were incredibly well-received, particularly by the Chairman of the European Court of Human Rights, who invited Roger to visit him in The Hague. You can read Roger's full remarks HERE.
Please continue to pray for the efforts of our colleagues in Albania as they are still fighting an uphill battle to keep the judiciary independent of the Parliament. While life in Albania is far better now than ever, corruption remains an enormous problem and many in the church there are dealing with discouragement.
 | (l to r) Toni Gogu, Alfred Nurja, Brent McBurney, Roger Sherrard, Ilir Panda, Judge Ardian Nuni and Altin Naqe met to discuss future plans for Advocates Albania |
Following the Court's celebration conference, we joined together with 18 Christian lawyers and judges and encouraged them in their efforts to establish a Christian legal aid clinic for the poor and needy in Albania. This coming September, evangelist Luis Palau will be coming to Tirana for the first time and Advocates Albania are playing a key role in the TiranaFest and will be kicking off their legal aid clinic in conjunction with the event. Please pray for their efforts.

Thank You for Your Financial Support

AI is not a recipient of government funding and is solely dependent upon the financial contributions of those who believe in its mission, thereby enabling it to serve "clients" ranging from heads of state seeking to implement constitutional reforms to persecuted and imprisoned believers sentenced to death for their faith. We are most grateful and thank you for whatever financial support or voluntary service you can provide in support of AI's mission. Here's how you can help: (more)
