Health & Nutrition
As many of you know I am firmly rooted in health & nutrition and have extensive training in the genetics and management of obesity/cholesterol and heart health. Please click on the short link below which will add to our topic of reclaiming our health.
The first short news clip is about teenagers...the second is an interview from the author PAM MC DONALD NP. This is an incredible grass roots person who is spreading the message we all need to hear!

In January I introduced you to the idea of a grass roots effort to reclaim our health and over the next few months I will be building on how to do that. Please click on the link in the left hand column (other Affinity Newsletters) to view prior newsletters.
If getting healthy in our culture were easy, everyone would be doing it. And, clearly, everyone is not.
In so many ways, pursuing a healthy lifestyle amounts to a revolutionary act-that's what this grass roots effort is trying to explain. From learning new skills and confronting old habits, to wading into unfamiliar territory and figuring out a whole new way of living. Re-evaluating the foods you eat and the places you go, to the way you manage your time and the way you relate to the healthcare system.
I am one of the believers; it can be done and there's nothing more worth doing. When you change your health, you change your life, and the lives of everyone around you, for the better. You free yourself up to be, do and share so much more than you otherwise could. You experience more energy, positivity and exhilaration. You naturally become more inspired and empowered to give your best gifts - the ones the world needs most right now.
So where do you start? Read the suggestions below and start incorporating them where you can. Revolutionary Act

HOW DO WE DO IT?
Most of us already know the essentials of what we need to be doing differently; more whole foods, fewer processed ones, more water, less soda, more activity, less sitting around, more rest and relaxation, less stress.
So much of the advice we've been given - about calories, carbohydrates, fats, serving sizes and recommended daily allowances - has been incomplete, misguided and, in many cases, dead wrong. A revolving door between industry and governmental organizations has undermined the credibility of official guidelines and recommendations. Then the media has reported this inaccurate information, repeating it until it sounds like scientific gospel, when it absolutely is not (revolutionary act-online).
- take a deep breath and know that you can do 1 thing at a time; start experimenting with a healthy habit listed from the essentials above. If something does not fit well with you then you can change it.
- challenge the assumptions that you can't feel like you were 30 again! why settle for that afternoon fatigue everyday as 'just getting older'
- understand the basic functioning of your body; it's a finely tuned machine and needs exercise/proper nutrients/rest to excel. Educate yourself and develop a relationship with a health-oriented medical provider that supports health -not just one rooted in disease management.
- get over the love affair with fast food! Learn to cook 1 healthy meal at a time and over time that will become a new habit
- revisit old pastimes and hobbies which involve movement and mental stimulation
"The great news is, once you ease off on the stuff that's bad for you and start loading up on the stuff that's good for you, you won't have to wait that long for results: Receptors on your tongue register within seconds that you've eaten something nutritious. Almost immediately, your cellular machinery kicks into action to make the best of it. Your genes take direction from every meal you eat. Within minutes of beginning to move your body, your brain activity, metabolism and biochemistry show marked changes." (revolutionary act-online) |

As a small business owner, I have carefully been building my practice
over the past 5 years. The next step in my growth was to be under my own roof and that goal became a reality as of March 1st 2010. Please feel free to see me in my new home. Most insurances are accepted (either under my name or under my Medical Director, Sharonelle Simmons MD). I continue to appreciate your referrals-it's the best compliment I can receive!
I look forward to seeing you!
Sincerely,
Patricia Faust NP (owner)
