WHAT'S THE BUZZ ABOUT BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONES?

"Conventional medicine has always held the belief that aging is inevitable and that the progressive deterioration that occurs in our adult years cannot be altered. This is simply not true" ( N. Rouzier MD).

I whole-heartily agree and there are world wide studies over many years that demonstrate the benefits of bio-identical hormones; despite the media frenzy which provokes fear and anxiety.

Over the next 3 newsletters I will help explain  WHO may want to consider it, WHAT  bio-identical hormone replacement  therapy (BHRT) is, and the FORMS which are available.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE ?
HORMONE PIC

BHRT (bio-identical hormone replacement therapy) is for men and women! As we age our hormones decrease or become less effective but they can be replaced to optimal levels. This in turn releives bothersome symptoms and optimizes the function of that hormone to the target organ. For example last month I talked about the thyroid gland and by replacing the hormones to optimal levels the body can metabolize calories better and mental function is often clearer. Hormones are chemical messengers that travel throughout your body regulating your digestion, mental functioning, metabolism, hair growth, menstrual cycle and hundreds of other bodily functions. Typically men notice problems with sex drive/erectile dysfunction, fatigue and increased weight gain; women notice changes in their menstrual cycle, insomnia, warm flushes, weight gain and fatigue. These are but a few of the many symptoms that may occur, for a more complete list see the videos below.

When women go through menopause (the cessation of menses for more than 12 months) it is obvious that they may need hormones but the time period around menopause called 'peri-menopause' may begin 10-15 years earlier. These people often get amazing benefits from progesterone supplementation. Likely they will do well with just this one hormone until menopause. I always order (blood not saliva) labs to determine the baseline status of your hormones and then correlate them to your symptoms. If hormones are appropriate then I prescribe them and monitor your labs and symptoms at periodic intervals. It usually only takes a few days to a few weeks to get the specific doses that your body requires to function optimally. Please click on these links to watch 2 (9min) videos on BHRT.

MARK YOUR CALANDERS:    You are invited to my FREE informal lunch seminar on BHRT October 31st @12noon. I'll do a power point presentation and then open the forum for you to ask your questions! Bring your husband or a friend. Please contact me via email or call the office (480) 874-2900 to reserve your place. The first 20 persons to sign up and attend will receive a FREE BHRT BOOKLET ( given at time of attendance).
