Greetings!
Welcome to my newsletter! I've been promising this for many months and I'm so happy to present it to you. My goal is to give you helpful hints and information that may guide you to make wise and healthy medical decisions.
I feel honored to be providing your health care and look forward to continuing to deepen our relationship. Whether you found me by accident (is there such a thing?), were referred to me or followed me from a previous location, I want to say a heart felt "THANK YOU'! You are the reason I have been successful in keeping my doors open even during this economic troubled time.
No compliment is as great as a personal referral and I look forward to continue building my practice by personal referrals. I'm also available to speak at your small women's meetings on many interesting topics. Just ask me!
Yours in health,

WHY CHOOSE A NURSE PRACTITIONER?
|
|
Would you like to have your healthcare provided only when you are sick or is it something you invest in to stay healthy and well-informed? It is a fundamental question to consider as it may assist you in choosing a medical provider and ultimately becoming a more empowered consumer. You don't necessarily have to choose between the two, you can have both. A growing number of people are choosing to see Nurse Practitioners (NP's) for this very reason.
I am happy to be a NP because I feel it is the best of both worlds. We are highly trained, Registered Nurses with additional education and national certification/state endorsement, healthcare providers. We address 80 to 85% of what MD's, DO's and other healthcare providers do but with an emphasis on the entire individual. We take a more holistic and preventative approach, love incorporating alternative medicine practices, (for example, many of us are dual trained in acupuncture/healing touch/etc...) and many times become friends with our "patients".
The typical model of western medicine is rooted in "sick" care, but NP's thrive in educating, coordinating, preventing and caring for the sick and wounded.
There is a new path being forged in our country; mostly lead by the baby-boomers (people born between 1946-1964). Especially over the past 2-3 decades, health savvy shoppers are embracing yoga, meditation, nutritionists, chi-balancing and perhaps even an medical intuitive to complement or take the place of typical therapies.

| WHAT ARE UVA and UVB RAYS?
Luckily we've come a long way in understanding the suns rays, how to decrease skin damage and ultimately prevent some of the related skin cancers. Ultraviolet A (UVA) and Ultraviolet B) are 2 of the most commonly rays which pertain especially to sun blocks.
A quick way I remember the difference between them are: UVA is the "aging" ray (it penetrates to the deeper level of your skin and can do great harm). UVB is the 'burn' ray which many of us are the most familiar with.
Research has found that UVA rays damage cells in the deep basal cell layer (dermis)- the skin layer containing the mother cells that ensure continual regeneration of the skin through cell division - making skin cells migrating out from this region highly vulnerable to cancer. This ray is present all year long and can penetrate light clothing. Back in the 80's we thought tanning booths were safe because only this ray was emitted; the science was vague back then but now we know this is a dangerous ray!
UVB accounts for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree sunburns, which are harmful to the outer layer of the skin and which leads ot the skin spots later in life. This ray is mostly present in the summer (in North America) due to the close proximity of the sun to Earth..
Most sunscreens protect from UVB but now there are many which also protect from UVA. Look for the phrase 'broad spectrum' sunscreen and don't forget to apply it before you go out in the sun and at intervals as stated in the directions. |
